Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

You need a good quality jig to put the pivots in... plus it takes a couple hours of additional work.

No should not be problem at all and while you are cutting and welding put an adjuster in the rear too.

the kids I'm donating parts to this year are puttingin adjusters RIGHT NOW with my jig... can take pix if you like...
Biggest issues with the conversion are...
1-chopping too much off the frame horns.. then having to refab
2-using a cheap jig

Old article when the mag produced something worth buying.
Remember this is not for your VW off-road purist.

PM me with your email address... I'll send a pix pack.. I don't have time to coordinate pix on a webserver.

Still the same standards of technical/proofreading excellence, though (the negative got flipped on the first photo).

I used my arms as the jig...Never thought much about it..but it might be why I have no toe or camber issues like some of the people who have used the 3x3 beanie boy arms. My arms are nice and straight and sit just about dead center in adjustment. Plenty of room to go each way...

I have never done them but was wondering why you could not use the trailing arms. Now I know you can.

Arm placement is adjustable for alignment... this is not advised..
the jig normally attaches to the torsion housing... not spring plates..
Look at your oval mounting holes...
I've done it... was lucky.. then screwed up the next one.
