I broke my crank at the 1000' marker judging by the video and glided to a 13.10 @ 97mph. I now join the 2+ piece crank club.
Boost was 15 pounds and I still had my radials on. I was planning on putting my new slicks on for the next run.
I was so excited...I couldn't care about breaking I would have reached my goal this year of a 12 something or a 100+ mph run from my singleport.
So much more potential still from a 1600. Add slicks, increase boost another 9 pounds....WOW 11's are possible from a singleport 1600.
I will add more once I get home.

You'd better get an eight-dowel.

Engine had a counterweighted 8 dowel crank.
Transmision was a 3:88 with stock gearing, car weighed 1750 with me in it.
60' 2.057
1/8 - 8.412 @ 87.96mph
1000' 10.899
1/4 - 13.104 @ 97.30 mph
What should have my 1/4 mph been if I had completed this run with power?
Yikes listening to the other video my heads were definitly lifting with 15 pounds.

Holy Carp! 13.1 !
Guess I've really been left in the dust now.
And I know I won't be able to improve upon my best this year.
But I certainly know what I need to do to my car over the winter; Lose some weight, and maybe replace the dinky 165's with real rubber . . .
Next year will be a better year
The old racer's rule of thumb for 1/4 mile times is approximately 1.5 times your 1/8 mile ET, Which would give about a 12.6 in the 1/4.

Next year ....More BOOOOOOST and Slicks, I am going for 11's. I am so impressed with this singleport 1600. The stock pistons look good still except 1 which had small skirt damage on it. Otherwise They are all good. Who would have thought stock pistons could get you into the 12's.
Here is a picture of the carnage. The heads are great, air/fuel looked perfect, I had one small blowout which I will have to plunge cut maybe .015 but I can add a thicker copper gasket to make up for it. There was signs of the heads lifting though, 10mm studs next time.
Look out next year.
Ohya I have to say new my stock pressure plate with a 4 puck disk has some signs of slippage but not much, I could probably just mill down the seating area by a few thou and make it work OK. I like a soft pressure plate, so next year I will try a stock pressure plate and a Black magic disk and see what happens.

Kevin,
whats your set up again?...or what was your set up? Are you making any changes in the rebuild or staying the same? Excellent...love a mouse motor that rocks. Now if that was built to the hilt 2387 that blew, you'd be crying

No wonder it broke, that's one of those cheesy cast cranks! You would have been much better off with a stock german crank.

That crank is stamped 1979, so I thought it should be a good old casting and I had no idea when I built this engine I would make more than 160 hp with 1584cc.
I had planned to upgrade to a stronger crank when the engine was going to be rebuilt this winter. This engine was so cheap ($380 for the long block) to build with used parts, that I really don't care that it broke. I had fun getting a singleport to go fast. Something that more people should try.
This summer was just to see if my heads were working, and not going to crack from porting. They work, and no cracks that I can see yet, still have to be sent through the washer.
Next year I should be able to get into the 11's with a singleport. I will keep everyone posted. My hardest descision is to keep it a 1600 and go for 11's, or up the size to a 1776 and make the 11's easier.

keep every yhing the same just go with a 74 stroke crank and some i beam rods thats what i did and im not regretting it at all. pretty wierd when you can be happy when your motor breaks.thats the way i was when we floated the valves and bent them and broke rocker arm off. i was happy cause i could not believe how much power tis makes. started at 8lbs then 10, then 13, then 15, now 18 and im stopping there.1699cc its still a 1600 will run low 12s no problem too kool.......

Kevin, make sure you get those heads penetrant tested before you bolt em' up.
