210 mm conversion flywheel problems (pressure plate)

Post by The Fix »

Jake, I am having a slight problem with my flywheel I bought from you. It appears the pressure plate bolt holes do not line up and there is some slop between the pressure plate and the flywheel. The holes in your flywheel seem to be smaller and are not 8x1.25. I think I might have the wrong pressure plate. 022 141 025G (sacs) Can you or anyone else give me any assistance?

Thanks, Jon

Did you run a tap through all the holes?

I couldn't get the bolts to go in either and thought that Jake had
sent me a 215 instead of a 210, cause the 215 had 7mm bolt holes.

I ran a tap through each hole and things started falling in place EASY PEASY!

IF the bolt holes don't line up, are you SURE you have a 210mm
pressure plate? A 200 T1 PP won't bolt up.......

IF the holes are clear, and you are sure you have a 210 PP, then
you probably have a 215 flywheel.

Hmmn, it sounds like you ended up with a 215 flywheel and a 210 pressure plate!

email rebecca and we will get you the correct 215 pressure plate and the bolts for it.

The 215's...oddly enough ..came with 6mm bolts...at least on the 411/412. Many of the pressure plates built just for them.....and a few other 215's in other vehicles came with the pressure plate holes at 6mm to match the flywheel. You will have to tap the holes in the flywheel to 8mm. Then ream the holes in the pressure plate. I would not leave the 6mm bolts in there.

If you have 8mm's in the flywheel aready, then you simply need to ream the PP.

I always found this odd. All of the original 210's in the 411/412 came with 8mm bolts...and teh 215's with 6mm.

I think part of it is because in general, casting wise....they are actually pretty much the same part. You will notice that the flange area on the 215 is a hair narrower. I believe that is why they used the smaller bolt to have more meat around it.

Just re-read your posting....yep...thanks for the memory spark. They WERe 7mm. Just my brain damage kicking in. I always found that really odd. Ray

Ray, actually they were 7mm, even more odd than being 6mm!

I had to have a run of 1000 of the 7mm bolts made of grade 12 material just because no one had any that were better than grade 2..

Damn, glad I read this. I just opened my RAT flywheel box and my 215 (to type 5) conversion flywheel has 8mm threaded holes that have a PDC to large for the 215 RAT/bus pressure plate (that look to have 8mm pass through holes).

What did I receive? receipt #977
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

Some late 215 set ups had 8mm holes. Check to see if the pressure plate holes align with the holes in the flywheel and that the pressure plate seats well in the flywheel step. There is a huge difference in the 210 and 215 pressure plates and flywheels, it will be notable if either is incorrect.

thanks and a question

Hey thanks for the posts. I was under the impression I had a 210mm fly wheel but it would appear that I have a 215mm. I bought my pp and clutch from a local shop and will have to return it there. Thanks for the info.

Jake I was wondering if it would be possible for me to exchange my Flywheel for a lightened one?

we do not lighten stock Bus flywheels, because they are cast iron...

Sorry to side jack this thread.

If I take a type-1 fuel pump stud and thread it into the 9-0 clock hole, drop the PP over it and I can only see 1/3 of the hole at 3-0.
