The Mahle 87 pistons and barrels have been tested up to 43 psi (3 bar). That seems to be the limit for our engines unless you have some really exotic head studs and/or a steel plated engine block.

But yes... the tune is rather critical at those boost levels. And it does not help a bit if your tune is spot on if your run out of spark at 35+ psi.

Man 43 psi would be so much fun! Best I've ever been able to make was 31.5 psi. Usually 29-30 psi is about all it will do.

Niklas ran 40psi on VW 8mm head studs.. lifted the heads and blew the engine at 43psi. Swapped to 10mm studs after that

Mine has 10mm studs! So all I need to do is figure out how to get more boost!

Easy! Remove the wastegate and plug the outlet.

I've run with my boost controller at 100% plenty of times. 30 psi is all she will do.

Swap WG springs

I bypass the waste gate completely! Or at least as much as the controller lets me. I think that's just as much as it will make. May be my 1 3/8" header too. Guess I could unhook the hose to the waste gate and see. If my clutch disk ever makes it here.
