Because if it is balanced the way it is, bending it will throw it out. It should be true and balanced. It's a welded balanced fan and I am not about to try to change it. Needs to be right outta the box.

Maybe it's the cheap aftermarket mount? Or a previously damaged VW one? (perhaps from someone prying on it with a screwdriver to straighten it)Or the gen/alt shaft?

Cheap aftermarket mount? What do you mean? You mean the chrome face plate? The rest of it is genuine VW. That's not gonna cause my fan to do the funky chicken.

As I said,

I checked. I have another fan and it is almost true but unbalanced and unwelded. I tried the shims thing, and I checked the hub for runout, as well as pulled the fan and rotated it 180. The runout follows the fan, not the shaft.

i guess the next question would be, do they get that way from the welding??? time to call the supplier and see if they have any info on it.
