I have started to look a little around for a crank and cylinder kit for my engine.. Have found this (see links) What is your opinion on this crank and cylinderkit. Is there a better alternative (Piston wise) and what about the crank? If anybody have some links to "dealers" who sell parts for large type 4 engines I would be glad :D Im going to turn this bastard to 8000 rpm, and think I need lighter forged pistons than those listed (dont actually know the weight) (I know I cant use the rods for the cam im using)

Any input will be apriciated.

It's going to be hard to beat the price of the lower link.

Has anyone seen one of the $495 cranks yet?
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

It's all AA's chinese stuff, except for the pistons.

They are the only one making a Type lV crank besides SCAT.

So they are the same cranks EMW is selling... Hmmm.

Getbackontrack--- to turn 8K on a big motor, you will need to spend very serious coin on huge heads/light valve train.
Plan on a major transmission upgrade too.

How much money do you want to spend ?

There's the chinese cranks you just posted links too that say's they are a forged crank ? And so you know their price. SCAT cranks which are much better and are a billet crank are $1200, Moldex which is a well know crankshaft company here in the states has made a billet Type lV crank, and it was about $1800, or you could check with Afling in Germany to see what they charge to do a forgred crank, which are who made the Oettinger Type lV cranks.

Regardless of what stroke you go with & cam lobe, the Cunningham rods will provide the most rod to lobe clearance that can be had and that's with a 2.0"-50.8mm rod jrl.

The AA cyl's are soft and need to be nitrided in order for them to have any kind of running life.

EMW (http://www.europeanmotorworks.com ) carries a good quality Type lV cyl.

Hey Pile did you forget this already: 2366 with 233hp @7400 rpm

Guy here in Germany turns his T4 to 9000....
It's in the magazines.

He raced an F1 car at the Bitburg track...

Hi Jakob,
Take a look at aircooled.net ...I have only received good parts and great service from them.

crank:
http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewpr ... 11&cartid=

Depending on what you are willing to spend JE can make you some pretty light pistons for high revs.
If you got the money talk to Johannes Persson about pistons.

Regarding rods I think FAT Performance makes Cunningham-like rods at a reasonable price. (I think Peter Bang knows more about these rods)

Yes that's the ones I'm talking about. (I guess Jakob already knows about them then ;-) )

So, does that meen its either a chinese crank or a scat? What about the DPR cranks?

Cunningham rods is what I will be using along with a web 277 cam.

Thanks for your replies.

I would personally NEVER use one of those in a monster engine like that. I use them on milder engines up to 170ish hp with no worries. Only 2 ways to go IMHO. That is DPR or SCAT. there is a significant difference pulling 170 hp and 250 hp.

No, it means if you Want a NON-Welded Stroker, the chinese, SCAT Moldex or Afling are the choice's, if you want a Welded Stroker, then DPR, Demellos, EMW or better known in Europe as Eurorace are the choice's.

For me if money wasn't an issue, I would go Moldex instead of SCAT http://www.moldexcrankshaft.com/ , a made to order stroker is the way to go.

Why limit your self with the WEB cam, a Pauter cam would be a much better choice, here are a few Pauter grinds:

Code: Select all

Grind Lobe Lift Valve Lift W/1.48 Rockers Dur @ .020* Advertised Dur @ .050"

B299 .389" .575" 346 293
B816 .394" .583" 338 294
Z6EO .416" .616" 338 298

And they have a lot more grinds, and even larger and more aggressive than these.

As an alternative billet crank supplier. I suggest these guys. http://www.marinecrankshaftinc.com/billet-crankshaft
YOU WILL get a superb custom crank.
