Swapping some parts Sunday. I will be dragging home my redux set-up.

After you pull the engine how long roughly does it take to swap out the trans? i will be swapping in a trans drum to drum so I don't have to pull axles or anything. I have trans straps so i have to remove those, the brake lines, and clutch cable right? Oh also have to unhook the starter. Anything else?

You have to remove or un-hook the emergency brake cables, shocks, spring plate bolts, the shift coupler and both tranny mounts, the ground strap along with everything you mentioned.

shouldn't take more than 6-8 weeks and you'll be back on the road again.

or have your son help you and you can have it done in a weekend.

Ain't that the truth. I have the magic touch, that is for sure.

I think I might amke a window today. The PO used sheet metal...creates a bit of a blind spot.

Just got home. I drug home a small nut redux tranny drum to drum with a set of johnson racing laydown adapters in a box, a large nut redux tranny drum to drum with welded on adapters, four new front steel fenders, two gasoline heaters, and a bunch of other parts.

Thanks to Tim for meeting me in Illinois so i didn't have to drive all the way to MN. Thanks to Dan (is he on here?) for letting us rummage thru the barn.

I am beat. More later... 8)

Mount them on the back and trim them up. passenger front on drivers rear, drivers front on passenger rear.

I only need two, so that's why I have four. I have that kind of mad skills.

Hammer...

Forgot...

Now that you have my JOHNSON... small nuts and large nuts..

please post a picture... I was too embarassed of my Fred Sanford Lookin pile of Dub trash to post a pix...

If I get a minute I'll take a photo of the rail I bought and gave to a young kid... different rail.. bought this one the night before in BFE, Wisconsin.

Glad you made it home safe... you're kinder, smarter and more attractive in person... wish you could say the same.

I will post pics soon. I am having the axle overtubes welded. I noticed a couple hiarline cracks along the flange weld. There is a guy here at work that is the best welder I have ever seen. As soon as I get them back I will post a pic.

I will post a pic of my pile of parts tonight when I get home. My plan is to go thru the small nut trans, replace gaskets, new axle boots, new brake shoes, new wheel cylinders, clean up and paint, etc. and keep the large nut for a back up or possibly for my son's car.

I will probably plasma cut the fenders when we do the skid plates. Slated for this Sunday. If I can measure twice and cut once I will again add the extra set to the "Son's car" pile of parts.

The gas heaters look like fun. I will talk to my Mom as she may have a spare power reducer thingy left over from the Pinzgauer...

Many folks convert the johnsons to a semi-upright for a little lift... I can hook you up with a regional guy with all the Matra jigs to rebuild etc if you choose this option...

I loved the last redux I had... not for the dune jumping.. slow crawler.

So... you work with joints (not implants) .. you have a johnson with small nuts... and your kid's getting the big nuts?

Glad I met you.

Sunday was a good day. My wife informed me she likes the smell of gear lube almost as much as I do. I think Ned is pretty serious about trading his 928 for a rail. I will convince him to send you pics.

Does anyone know if Beetle wheel cylinders are the same as RGB bus wheel cylinders? (fingers crossed)

I pulled my rear fenders off. I think it looks pretty cool. I plan to mount the front stockers high on the rear body then trim with the plasma cutter. I also need to do some trimming on the engine cowl to clear the high-lift. I need to get more bulldozer paint for all these new parts! 8)

homemade adapters on the largenut trans.

gasoline heater. I have two so hopefully I can get at least one working.
Image

fenders for cutting. I have four of these so i hope to end up with two good ones! Also the engine cowl.

I took the rear fenders off in preperation for the new ones. I think it looks kinda cool. Hope the fuzz leave me be.... Oh and you can see my lexan window I made on Saturday. The PO had a piece of sheetmetal in the window. Made a bit of a blindspot.

Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.
