Do you think I am going to have a problem if I hang a EJ22 back there? I am going to split the case on my EA82 today and make the descision to keep it or chuck it.
I have found an EJ 22 locally for 400e. How much heavier is that from the Beetle and the EA82 engine?

I have never weighed the two but it can't weigh much more than a fully dressed type 1. I would recommend at least a good tranny strap and some frame horn support due to the extra power. This motor is solid mounted now and it's not bad at all. They run so much quieter and smoother than the average big type 1. And deff go with the ej22!

Hey 55 - that is one trick set-up! Love the IR application on a Suby, something I've been thinking about for a long time.

Do you have any build photos of the manifolds? Did you just piece in tubing between the upper and lower manifold sections?

Yep, I just used the subaru lower and type 4 uppers. I rough cut them on the band saw and then trued them up on the mill, that way it kept everything square without any trouble. What I really want to do is a twin cam 2.5 with some IDA's!!

the engine itself with an EJ22 is actually narrower than a 1600 vw
its only the timing belt covers that are wider
they still fit inside the bodywork though with no trimming other than the valance seal channel

Just got back from a very fun Bugorama weekend! We got some new 23" m&h slicks, a full nitrous bottle and crossed our fingers. Managed a 12.8 and a best trap speed 105. Not to bad for a stock ej22 sucking through 36 dells on 91 octane. It did end on a bad note though, after about 6 passes the trigger wheel that I welded to the crank pulley broke off and took out the Vr sensor. Not a hard or expensive fix but sucked that it didn't go home under it's own power. This time I'm going to attach it with bolts. I knew that welding to the cast iron pulley wasn't the best but didn't think it would fail either. Guess it didn't like the 6500 rpm abuse....

I already have the jets for a 100 hp shot so I see a trip to the Wednesday night drags in our future. I want to see how far we can push the stock motor.

Very cool!!! There are always little things to work out, and that does sound little, if a little annoying. Lemme know when you're heading to the drags, mine should be back this week from paint so I may be able to join you if I can get an engine cover made up. We didn't get there till 3 so we missed your run:(

Thanks to my friend Jeff for this awesome vid, It cracks me up every time I watch it.
It doesn't show it but the Porsche ran a 13.0 at 108, and after the bug broke we put the slicks on the 914. This immediately resulted in a outer cv joint failure on the launch after a nice second gear burnout. Managed to fix it with a swap meet axle but it would have got into the mid twelves with that trap speed.

Do you happen to have any pics of how you ran the coolant lines under the car? What size tubing did you use? Did you run it along the heater channel on the driver's side, or what?
