Type 1 vs. Type 4
Steve G. i must repectfully partially disagree with your love of front engined VWs, while they are decent cars they are not VWs. Whens the last time you saw a mid 80s VW let alone an early Rabbit? While the new cars wtih the VW badge on them might be quite, quick, and comfy, they lack the durablity, reliablity, usefulness, and character of the real deal. The New Beetle is the biggest con game in the automotive world right now(thankfully as sales indicate it was only a fad-whew!)

Yeb, seen it with my own eyes last year at the bug fair , poor jake was trying to do any thing to get it to blow, dang thing just won't stop. type four engine blows are just boring.

Type 1 vs. Type 4
Jake, I think he thinks you were talking about running flat out in the car, not on the stand.

Type 1 vs. Type 4
jake, i have never personally built a type 4... all my complaining is based on what i've seen, what i've been told by the people i've listed, and the experiences of others in the industry.
that is why i was asking if anyone out here actually has hands-on experience with hundreds of vw heads, like those people do.
>>>>That's a circular argument. First you say that c/r is John's problem w/ high horse type 1's then you say that people are having great success with hi performance type 1's, but they have high c/r? What?<<<
not at all, matt, lemme run it by you again:
"You can't run a type 1 at over 130hp for an extended time because the sucker will overheat and self destruct." -john connelly
since my motors don't do that, i could only assume that he was talking about the motors that he builds
that's a JOKE, matt.
i know john connelly, he is a great guy, and he is NOT taking any of this too seriously... so lighten up!
also, all those high c.r. "success stories" i pointed out were actually a rib at john... i never claimed to personally believe or even agree with what those people said.
>>>Secondly, just because you put
after a rude statement doesn't make it OK. You do it<<<
do you think that it got some type 4 panties in a bunch?
see you at sac, matt.

Type 1 vs. Type 4
It does not bother me that Dan is not registered, we know who he is, he doesn't hide his identity. As for the attitude that a few people diplay, not just Dan, it is much easier to display bravado on the net than in person. Why can't we all just get along
Back to the topic, anybody got a type 1 to put against Jake's type 4. I think the test should include 1/4 mile, standing mile, and then an engine blow, Dan could video tape it and sell it! I'd buy it, no matter who won.

So let me get this right, you have just spent the last two weeksspouting off about a engine that you have no personal experience with?
dan, I like you, really I do, but I have come to conclusion that you just like to have these little conflicts.
Anytime someone post something that disagrees with berg's lttle blue book, you jump in and say it's wrong.
The problem is I'm running a power pully, zero clearance and more then 7-1 compression. Yet my motor lives, revs and burns rubber. Everyday, under constant hell that I give it.( I think it likes it also).
Berg had some great ideas, and lot of berg parts are found on my car. But his book is NOT a Bible.
