i cut everything off the old front end except the shock mounts. so i started with just the beam and shock mounts. the shock mounts will be changed down the road but they are useful for mock up right now
Why 112"? Isn't class 5 110"? I know you run open buggy, but... well... why the extra 2"? (honest question, hope it doesnt' sound pompous or "you're doing that wrong-ish".)
class 5 open is 105" wheelbase limit and that was what my car was set up as before. 5 open also has to have a VW motor and since im never going down that road again i figured there is no reason to keep the short wheelbase. the added wheelbase will help in the rough. and don't worry didn't sound pompous
I don't see any modesty Leather. CWA's stuff is like the EMPI of fabrication. (yes that was sarcasm. don't lock my thread.)
Busk, you've got the skills to widen a body. Why not give yourself 6 inches more elbow room while you've got the chassis this far apart? You don't even have to worry about windows being a racecar and all...
thanks guys, im pretty happy with how its moving along but still a long road ahead
MB,
i do worry about windows, i like to cruse in style. my car has always had a windshield and functioning door windows and that is how i like it. its only a part time race car, i still use the car just as much as a play car and windows are nice. plus i still hang the license plate on the back of the car from time to time so windows have to stay. widening the body would just add a bunch more work and would definitely push me back past my november goal of getting the car done.
I wanted to thank you for posting this picture. I've been wondering if this style cage is race legal with the one rail running from front-to-back along the roof line and interconnecting bars between to make the "hoops". You appear to know what you're doing, so I assume it is. I'm surprised that someone doesn't sell a pair of these front-to-back roll cage rails. Seems like you could assemble the rest without a bender if need be and get a pretty good fit to boot.
Lookin good, thanks again. -Tim
