Pro Mo's adventure in rust and ruin. (A build thread)

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Yeah... If we only had a dollar for every Internet Fabricator's opinion, we would all have 100,000 cars...

You think that is bad you guys should check out dezertrangers.com (aka dramarangers). Seriously though I wouldn't go anywhere near that board unless you want a glimpse of the sad state of our youth. I guess some people think when you build a car it is to impress them. I have heard it out in the desert too. Everyone is an expert! Plus photos online always make stuff look worse than in real life.

14"s in the rear (375/400) and 10"s in the front. Have not tried to figure front spring rates yet.

And ricko, If you ever take me up on the front bumper offer we could press in some wheel studs for you too (after your adventure this weekend!). I finally broke down and bought a shop press but hardly use it. I need more excuses!

Nice edit on quoting me! I will admit I do not know how well you know your welding. Why I took offense at your post is because for the most part your posts around these boards show a level of skill I would put in the "know just enough to get yourself into trouble" category. Yet you came at me with a condescending, know it all attitude that seems to be pretty typical of what I have seen over the past year or so from you. The closest you have come to showing your work was trying to pass on Griffith's 5 car as yours. I never said my welding is top notch and my car is obviously a home built amateur project. Yet you have seen photos of about 1% of the welds on the car and you tell me the whole thing is wrong. As I have admitted I did use what my brother and I call "cheater" welds for the plate especially the little dimpled piece on the shock mounts. I want it to look nice and have a pretty good idea of its load requirements so I knew (by experience amazingly enough) what I was able to do. Now if you have picked welding as a career good for you, it is a great trade, but it does not make you a fabrication expert. Welding is a small (albeit important) aspect of a whole car. I used to think it was all about the welding so I learned how, then I tried to build something.

I am sure we can expect pictures of either some one else's welding or that lift we saw pictures of. Not to belittle your work but if you should me welds on strait lap joints with over a 1/4" on each side of the joint then I will not be too impressed. I mean we are talking first day of hands on welding type stuff there. If one can't lay a good bead on that then give it up. I want to see your welds on tricky things, upside down tube junctions. I stand by my work and have pride but I am able to take criticism just not from you. I will only listen to people I respect and the way you carry yourself on these boards has made me lose respect for you. I could be way off and you could be a great guy in person but when the bulk of your posts are putting others down forget it.

Very nice welds Projectile Motion and a really nice answer also.

This pic shows even penetration it just don't get any better than this. Even with a blurred pic those welds are a work of art.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

I might take you up on your offer pretty soon. I busted a weld at the torsion housing for the second time this weekend, so I might need your services for that too

And I dont remember if I gave you the link or not, but I got my new upper springs from these guys: LINK for 30 each. But they only carry 2.5 in coils. I dont remember what shocks youre running.
