Awesome! Congrats!

And I wouldn't sweat the flat spot in the carb until you have your exhaust all installed. It'll make a difference.

Nice stuff ! I like what you've done and thx for sharing your experiences and fab details ....

I'm sitting in a hotel in Shanghai right now missing my Family, Friends and Bus :( I hope to get started once again on my 2.3l. Maybe work and life will give me a break this year to get doing something fun with the camper ....

The full exhaust will be on next week some time........i hope....

Work on the carb today and got the accelerator pump working..... Had some trash in the nozzle........ I guess a full rebuild would be in order..... The flat spot is gone now........ :)

I also worked on the cooling system some.......

I installed a electronic thermostat for the fan and it seems to not work properly........ It's preset for 185 on/ 165 off but wont come on. The relay works fine. the fan works fine. I removed the probe and hooked it to a ohmeter. when I put heat to it from a lighter it will operate.... More like 300 degrees.....

I reinstalled it and ran the bus for 15 minutes without the fan so it would get hotter....... Around 230 I shut it down. The switch doesnt work... :x .. I'm going to replace it with an adjustable type that has the capilary tube...... I can adjust that type from the drivers seat..... May be better anyway....

Well my vacation time is over and it's back to work.. ......... Now the work will slow down on the bus........ Yeah Right.......

Paul

Great work! Inspiring! Thanks for the write-up, pix & all. Looks like some fun times ahead.

Are you adding in air conditioning now that you've got a powerplant that won't be dragged down too much?

Have fun.

Not right now....... I need to make sure all other systems are fully funtional and the van is put back together before i invest in the A/C..... I have the condensor and the underdash unit already but want to wait and install that stuff last.......

I want to make sure the cooling system is adequate enough for the engine..........I.E....some good road tests....... :)

I finally finished the exhaust...... Now it purrs like a kitten...... It's quieter than my truck...('06 F-150).....It's not the purtiest but it's very strong and functional.........Image

Now that's done i have been working on a front tire clearance issue.... when I turn with 2 people in the front the tires slightly rub the front dogleg........ I decided to trim the front edge by 1" and blend it back into the fender contour..... Here is the problem and my solution...... I will be grinding and smoothing the sectioned portion of the fender....

More to come

Started stripping the bus getting it ready for paint........ I'm not going for a show bus..... just making it presentable enough so my wife will ride in it.......

I ordered some Master Series rust stop. Going to clean and coat all the floors before paint.

All the window rubber was hard and rotten... ...... I have some metal repair around the windshield and a little on one side window opening...... I will probably work some of the door dings but not all ...... going 2 stage red and white...... Then Bedliner spray the roof white...... :D

Each day i'll hack away at it until it's ready...... :D

Later,
Peace,

Paul

belts

Post by jjenibun »

Hey fastmc where did you order your special smaller belt from. Oh yeah, I have searched all over they don,t sell an intake manifold or carb for my chev 2.5l, but they do sell them for the 2.0l, 4.3l, and the 4.8l. For some reason, they dont manufacture them. I even checked holley and edelbrock, I got the same responce. It looks like I am going to have all of the FI components installed. I will start next week. Oh and congrats on finishing the swap. The pics have been great

Any parts house sells small belts.... Just use an old belt and cut it to how long it needs to be. Take that to the parts house and look for one....... Mine is a stock '87 2.8 Fiero alt belt.....

As for the intakes...... I know the U.S. Postal (mail Carrier) trucks ran a 2.5 with a carb.....and some had a TBI system.......... We used to take them off and put them on our 2.5 chevy ministocks racecars......................As with most conversions....... Your gonna have to build and create some of your parts yourself.......... But you'll get there..... :D

I'd use the F.I. ........if you can figure it out....... It'll Save some room for sure...
