Highway flyer trans, question!

Ray when you are in the middle of it you don't realize what's going on. Yes I hit it on the head but didn't realize it till you said it.

CAD is a great Tool, the pencil in hand is creativity. I must admit I didn't miss using that eradicator fluid on sepias to make changes on a print.

But the electric eraser was real COOL!!! Hay how about the special power you put on a pencil drawing then rubbed a sheet of paper all over the print to remove smudges, yet leave the line work.

Bruce as you stated:

stock AH 4.12 x .89 = 3.67:1
your SSC 3.88 x .82 = 3.18:1

The difference is 3.67/3.18 = .866, or 15.5%
If you took your original speed (60mph) and increased it by 15.5%, you'd have precisely 69.3mph, pretty close to the 70mph you observed.

SO - Unknowingly I wound up with a great combo for a highway flyer. The bus gears are a great idea. My car just hmmms along at 75mph.

the above math does not include the tire size. The math is good for comparing 2 trannies, but does not fully address the the changes to your car. With the tires you have the 3.88 and .82 will not match the mph/rpm you are experiencing. If you had the original tranny and your current tires, your speedo will indcate about 4MPH faster (at 60) than you were before. Now when you think you are doing 2500 at 60, you are really doing 2500 at about 64 mph. If you go back a few pages to my math you will see that you needed an even taller 4th to explain your performance.

Like I said I have no idea what is in that trans and you are correct the tires are 195 xx 15 I better check the xx.


So even if I took a photo of the tach and speedo at 70 it would not matter if the tires are throwing the speedo off.


Hay were to you live, we put on our cell phones you do 70mph then beep the horn, I look at the tach and we will know. But your car better be in a Toyota with original tires. They are very accurate..

I have really started this post off with some screwed up specs. Sorry.


My tires are not 195 60 15 they are 195 65 15 which is a larger tire then I originally thought. 832 revolutions per mile -NOT 860.

Joe, It is easy now. 832 revs per mile is 832 revs per minut at 60MPH. Now, what does it take to get from 832 to your engine speed at 60mph?
