IF I buy the cam, you'll let me know the best valve sizes and comp ratio, right?
It's not JUST the cam......that makes the POWER!

Jake, the concensus so far seems to be 800-1200 and I agree. This is pretty much in keeping with the cost of a decent set of type1 heads. This should be for a set of heads that will work well with a stock to mid size motor- bolt on. From there, additional porting, valves, and other goodies could be added for bigger engines requiring more flow. This could easily bring the cost to 1500 plus. I think this would fit with your intent to build a head the "average" guy could consider buying, offer great performance potential and allow them to be sold in larger numbers, not just a few monster/specialty heads a year. Face it, there is a TON of money being spent on type 1 motors every day. If the power and reliability of the type IV could be brought to those masses without a staggering price tag, the tide will definitely turn in the direction of the type IV.
BTW, I must say, I applaud your efforts to bring this to life. Your committment to the Type IV and its community is staggering. If you are only designing the heads, will you be receiving a portion of the profit from their sale? I hope so. Either way, if you are doing the designing and they live up to your expectations, I'll be standing in line for a pair as well
Good luck!

I agree with Tom...everyone please stand up and give this guy a round of applause! Thanks for your continued development of the Type 4. I understand that it is to your benefit as well, but sharing all your knowledge with the rest of the world is great!
I just wonder what you'll be doing 20 years from now. Maybe Honda should hire you do further Hybrid technology!

Jake:
One thing that I feel that people are overlooking in this discussion thread. With Type IV stock heads we are frequently talking about 30 year old units. There is a limit as to how long an auto part can last.
It would seem to me that either there will need to be a source for quality new heads or the Type IV will fade into history. JMHO.
It would also seem to me that either there will need to be a source for quality new cases or the Type IV will fade into history. JMHO.
Am I the only one who thinks along the line I have stated above?

I know, I know, you're sick of me talking about it. But from what i understand you will have a mold sent to the US and then machined from there. If you could design the mold to POSSSIBLY be machined or for the type 5 spacing it would be awesome. both are in desperate need of a head (TIV especially) and that would be the icing on the cake. you could get a "Raby style" type 4 200k motor or a cheaper longer stroke using T1 partsthat would still outlast the hipo T1's right now tenfold and would get alot of raby headed motors at the track as well as the big block street pounders. Not asking for a purpose built head but at least keep it in mind when drawing it up. ok you can flame me now for bringing it up a 10th time.

The AMC heads are good castings and they are new.....BUT just the castings are good. I have not used rebuilt castings for years.
As for a Type 5 head.......I have limited experience with a T5 engine. I don't mess with things I don't know about- till I know about them.
The Type 5 head is very clse to a TI, so perhapos CB could increase the bore spacing on some 044s and set you up.

I´m voting 800 - 1200 max. As these heads will only be for the serius guys anyway. I also did it out from the fact that if a head like that is portd & polished by an experienced person, it is likely to cost say 15-1800 after that. then it gets expensive. On the other hand, a set of T1 044´s hand ported from Wik, Performance Tech., Denham or similar, easily breaks the $1200 mark. So these heads could bear a slightly higher price, when we are talking 200+ hp on the street.
