Are your pistons setup for the nikasyl plating of the 964 cylinders?

I had a complete set from a 964 and had a hard time selling them. I finally got 500$ out of them on ebay.

Hi Steve,

I'll need chrome piston rings. Do'nt have them yet.
I had a hard time to find my Set. Got them for 400€ from a Porsche Spare Parts Dealer.
But this weekend a set of 5 pieces went für 113€ on Ebay :x So your 500$ seem to be okay :)

Greets,
Nick

Nice work man!
Thanks Wally :D

I thought mounting the cylinder upside down would result in best cooling, but im not sure
Would you mount them 911 Style, the bigger cooling-fins at the bottom side ? Maybe thats the right way,
an they need air deflectors at the bottom. Any suggestions ?

Yes, the top is cooled extremely well already, more fins at the bottom is logical as it gets less direct air.
I used the original bottom deflectors as well. Cooling will be excellent.
I would maybe have shaved the top fin of the cylinders and leave the head fin be, but I am sure you will be fine

Sounds good. I'll turn them then
Thanks !!!

So if anybody has a set of the original deflectors, please mail !

I meant the original type 1 deflectors  They are plenty around I think. I used cut-down original type 4 deflectors, but either should work, as long as you have something to divert the air left-right :)
Thought you were going to use original 964 pistons, turned down. Be sure to get the nicasil compatible rings. Not sure 'chrome' rings are that kind, but I am not a specialist in that area...just be sure they are nikasil compatible.

I already have Type 3 Style Type 1 deflectors, so i'll trim them :)

I heard that Niki-piston rings are an alloy with chromate to work on the harder Nikasil surface.
I'm not sure, but i think and hope that standart 996 GT3 has Nikasil coated cylinders too.
I sent an e-mail one minute ago to play safe.

So is it just Me or are the case studs hitting the cylinders? Plans for this?

You need to hurry up a little, I just got some 964 cylinders off ebay and need to know what to do next.

Thanks !

Yes, the case studs would hit the cylinders, but milling them at that point ain't any problem.
I've already done that. Pictures's come soon.
