The garage is clean (-ish) and the Beetle is back in the garage.

Did I work on it last weekend? - no.
Will I work on it this weekend? - no, I have a race.
Will I work on it this summer? Yes.
Will it get done this year? Probably not.

It's been out in the carport since about October. Raw steel now has some surface rust, and the elements weren't kind to some areas with filler.

I figure its better to work on it when you actually have time and want to work on it. Once you start making yourself work on it just to get it done, it loses a lot of its appeal, and just isn't fun...at least that's how I feel about it.
Take your time...it's not going anywhere

Another thing I've done is spend 5-20 minutes a day on it. It sounds hokey, but something gets done each week.

I've got out of the habit of waiting for a magic stretch of time I can really sink some time into my bus or buying parts for it I'm not ready to put on yet. Life always gets in the way.

I use spare time (time not on the honey do list) or sleepless night time working on problems (I then re-think them in the morning when I am fully awake to see if they even make sense  and some of them do). Come up with an idea, then look at it in a 360° view rather than a tunnel view for the faults or improvements in other spare time periods.

I just started rearranging and cleaning up my garage this week while looking at my buggy for many other things as a wide look can find things that affect the narrower scope of problems being worked on at the time (it does make sense). Over 10 years ago I built a 66" long table and I finally got it moved to where I built if for opening up that one end of the garage for more junk   . Other than the physical part of moving things around it doesn't take much time and the change is to the positive giving me that small bit of more thinking time. Garage time is precious even when one is retired so time in there, even if it isn't much, each day is a good idea; it also keeps you connected to the project rather than turning into a task. Also, you never know when a quick side causes you to see/notice something that is going to lead to something positive.

Keep up the good work as it looks like you have a good handle on what you are working on.

I'm re-motivated after doing a couple autocross laps in a friends 914. Sure, my car won't be a road race prepped 914 when it's done, but it refreshed my desire run an air-cooled vehicle with a soul.

I think I need to make an actual list of what I need to do to get it running (and importantly not add more scope to the project.) Right now, when I make a mental list, its overwhelming with a million little things. I think if I make a plan, it'll help me stay focused.

Haha! PG tips, surprised they sell it in the US

I know what you mean about wanting to work on cars. At the minute I’m loving working on mine, really actually enjoying it. Which is nice :) other times in the past I’ve lost interest at time when things seemed so far off or what ever....

Keep up the build! (When you feel like it )

Got bored at work(on my break) and googled "autocross prep vw 1303" and this thread popped up. Even though I've posted in it many many times, and read through it several times, it never fails to deliver.

Any updates?
