CIS "is" the fuel injection, so no, he is not running the stock injection from a 914 on his car.

CIS=Constant Injection System

Stock 914 injection has been used for a turbo in the past, but the CIS setup is much better for it between the two.

Hi Ed. You mentioned in a previous post "...An air to air intercooler would not see enough air flow in the engine compartment to be effective in the 914. The heated air in the engine compartment would keep the intercooler hot and any heat from the intercooler would just heat the air going into the cooling fan..." but now you're using an intercooler on the 2.0 turbo. Why the change of heart?

I was almost ready to yank the intercooler off my "turbo teener" until I read futher down. Where mine is located is a PITA as it covers the distributor, timing hole, etc.

Rob, I just added the air to air intercooler to try it out. There is not enough airflow, on a hot day, it does nothing. I am going to try 2 different things with it.

1-st I'll try to make an air scoop or duct to get outside air over it too cool it. This may be difficult or ugly, but I'll try this 1st.

2-nd I will make a charge cooler.I will build an aluminum jacket around the intercooler and cool it with liquid. The liquid will be stored in a tank with a pump to circulate it and a front mounted oilcooler to cool it. A little more difficult and some plumbing to add, weight also, but it would cool well then.

I took the car out for a drive the other weekend, on a 30 degree day. With lots of cold dense air, the car F%ckin' flys. I was slipping the clutch in 4th at WOT and 10-psi. If I could figure out a way to keep the intake air that cool all the time, I'd be in bussiness,LOL...

Volksguy, I do not have any other pictures of the exhaust. When I get a chance I can take some pics of the exhaust and send them to you.

BTW- If anyone is interested, I scanned the Excellence article on my 914, you can see it at http://community.webshots.com/album/56139700KTKzDo

Hey Ed. Is the exhaust side of your turbo wrapped w/thermal barrier material? If it is wrapped, nevermind. If not, maybe that is contributing to high engine compartment temps.

If heat is a factor for you, then I was trying to figure out why the PO installed an intercooler in the engine compartment of my teener. Then I remembered that the Crown turbo and exhaust is mounted underneath the car. I haven't had a chance to drive it much so far, but it doesn't seem to get hot in the engine compartment.

I'm FORCED to wrap my turbo, as it resides way too close to the trunk floor and damned near caught the trunk carpet on fire during a 20 minute drive! Image
