Why do kadrons get so much abuse? My brother runs a set of the newer "brosol?" 40mm kaddys and they run like a dream on his car. The linkage we modified to stop the ends popping off. Job done. By the way his engine is a dual port 1641 very mild head porting and an extractor exhaust. And believe me he chews up alot of local badboys in their plastic-mobiles.

Kadrons are much better than the stock Solex as far as HP producing goes. They also had the advantage in that jets were much more avaliable than Webbers or Dells (I don't even remember Dells being an option when I got my Kadrons to replace my Empi/Speedwell SU pieces of junk in 1973 and I sure couldn't afford Webbers. The whole Kadron kit compleate cost $95.00) Back in 73 no one in the Portland Or. area stocked any jets except the VW dealer! I have since driven many webber carbed cars. Yes they make more horsepower but I truly don't think they were appreciably better than Kadrons in anything other than total number of HP produced. It is just my opinion but if I had an old set of Kadrons available at say $150 and I would have to spend $450 for Webbers and the budget was tight I go with the Kadrons for a street driver. BTW those are typical prices I have seen on E-bay for used sets advertised as compleate. The $300 difference will get you a Maaco paint job!

I have a set of NOS Kadrons, with Treuhaft manifolds, I never have used them, I just like to look at them.....
The thing that makes me a twin Throat kinda guy is efficiency, and tunability, being able to tune each cylinder independantly is a plus in my book..
Fact is that many of the new Kadron kits are made so cheaply that they HAVE to run a 5/16" equalizer tube to run half way balanced.
We all have our pros and cons about everything, The Kads are on the same page as Progressive webers in my book, we don't offer them on any of our engines..

Kadrons run fine once you get them tuned, and even the linkage can be tweaked. Jake's right that they're not as tunable as IDF's or DRLA's, but they're also only half the price. On a street car any dual carb setup is a step up from one central carburetor with long intake runners sitting on lousy manifold heat tubes that plug up. If you can't afford IDF's or DRLA's what's a better alternative?

Yes. I too like the tunability of Webbers or Dells. But once you get done tuning and get to driving, If you put a lock on the lid so no one can peek, I don't think the make of carb would be noticed IF you were just driving to and from work on a daily basis. No speed contests no trying for max speed in each gear. Well ok you might know the progressive carb from others, in my book they have a special page of their own. I have owned exactly 1 and it worked well all the others I have driven (other peoples) didn't work as well as the stock Solex they had replaced. Kadrons are a step above any progressive in my book. I got 29 MPG with my Kadrons (in a Baja Bug), the only VW I have owned that got better milage was my 72 Fastback with injection and the best it ever did was 31 MPG.

Jake, when I said it ran like a dream I meant it ran like a dream, we have VW's over here as well ya know and most of my mates down the VW club run dells and webers but my brothers car runs kadrons and they run VERY well. They only cost £100 (approx$60) used aswell.

your math is wrong; £100 is ~= $150, not $60.
