Do you like to go fast? Well get out of that stocker and build a hipo motor for your VW. Come here to talk with others who like to drive fast.

thanks for the reply, I wish i could get that mpg im my bus!!! loaded with full length roof rack i get 20. I have had the engine in a 60 rag then a 70 vert. the 70 is what got the solid 29 all the way to sacramento! I think the 412 r&p was the key to the mpg.

i am going to put this h2o system in my bus though. loade d down it does get pretty hot so my interest in the injection.

anyone else have a working setup that can chime in with dos and donts??

I know this thread is long dead but I want to share this for anyone who's interested in water injection.

Back in the 60's a GM engineer named Doug Roe was stunning the road racing world with a turbo Corvair (http://autoxer.skiblack.com/roe/roe-racer.html#mvc-017s). I remember reading that he was using water injection, but was injecting the water into the cooling air inlet at the fan shroud, not the intake inlet. Seems like this would go a long way toward keeping the heads cool without having the water go inside the engine...

what about the rust? I guess painted cylinders and stainless pushrod tubes might not rust. I asked the question before and was told thermal shock would warp or crack the cylinders if they are hot.

Has anyone used water injection on a propane blow through turbo?

I thought about the same idea the other day, inject a fine mist into the fan inlet when the temps get up to a certain point. Might be worth looking into co2 sprays like guys spray on intercoolers to chill the air entering the cooling system? As far as corrosion goes maybe a bit of soluble oil etc could be mixed in with the water?

Shouldnt be a hard setup to rig up for a bit of testing anyway.

The cooling mist in the fan has been done before. Check out http://www.blackline57.com/57intexhtin.html they set up a system for a salt flats runner. Supposedly works great.

Salt flats is probably the only track where spraying any amount of water onto the track would be permitted...
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I've seen it in person at a car show, though I missed seeing them run at World of Speed. Very slick setup, and the kids who built it were more than happy to show off and explain the whole thing.

As for water on the track, I can't imagine any of it makes it out the back end before vaporizing, but I don't know. Track rules might still prohibit it, however.
