Hmmm  Let's see, assuming stock size tire, stock 4.125 R&P, stock 3.80:1 first gear that 30-35mph is 6,000-7000rpm :o

Congratulations, Mike!

Sounds like almost too much fun.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Quicker than my VDO tach reads. Maybe I am getting up there.. certainly not in second. I let off about 60 there.

Hmm.. I better check my tach then. Says about 6000 at 60.

Gonna need 65 idles. Kinda dry down low, but still mean as hell. I drove it a good long time this afternoon. It's gonna be bad a$$ when I get it all dialed in. Cylinder head temps stay around 325 degrees right now. I bet when I get better ventilation and the right jets it will go down.

65's and OH LORDY.. heads went down to 300 and response went way up on the lower rpms, and the transition into mains is transparent. Smooth as can be. I had a feeling on the bench.

Now I can spin it all the way through second gear. I know for a fact my carbs are not opening up all the way either. I'll deal with that soon as I get things tuned out. I still need to play with the timing a few degrees back and forth.

On low RPM (like 1000 to 1500) it sounds very slightly like a diesel if I really load it so I am going to play with the timing and see what happens.

I'm getting a little less scared of it. :).

Ah, yes. I do have 135's on front. That would explain things. I didn't even think about it. Gonna get some bigger ones soon. I need em for braking power if nothing else.

Thanks. I found a dyno shop that will do it for $150/hr or $75 for three pulls. I will shoot for the hour. Gonna play with mains, airs, and timing and see what I can come up with. I will set up for it next week.

So how do you like the clutch? OK for driving everyday? Good to hear that you finally got it going.

Mark, any chance you'll have some of your dyno time on video?

Mark, to see if you are getting full throttle, take a stick (or pedal pusher tool) and wedge your pedal flat. Check your plates and see if they are wide open. If not, adjust.

I already know you knew this though.

The way I do it is wedge the pedal WFO (wide f'ing open) to the floor. This way you won't bend your linkage. Then adjust the cable and linkage so that the linkage is as open as you can get it. If it isn't perfect then you may need to change some ratios.
