Dirt cheap build from a newbie

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Sadly...none.
Zip.
Zero.

It's just been damn cold. I have two weeks off for the holiday and a new fuel pump shipped today. I'm planning on having some fun while on vacation. Maybe I can convince fuser to make another run up this way...

there is no convincing needed. gonna order some bj boots tomorrow along with hook and pin stops and get the rail ready. turns out i actually did finish re-indeing hte rear bars, so its closer to ready than i thought. we will need to orchestrate the towing thing, but when works for you in two weeks time?

Fuser do you mean to tell us we are going to actually see the rail in action?

I'm off starting the 24th until the 4th. I have no plans at all except for of course, the 25th. My fuel pump should be here by tomorrow afternoon and installed by Wednesday night (I hope). Then it's an oil and plug change, adjust the valves and timing and I should be back on the road. I still need to index the rear since it sits really freaking low, maybe I'll get to that over the weekend. Did you ever find out about my chain? Looks like I'm going to have to try that ratchet strap trick when I do the torsions. As for towing, how many things we need to tow? I still have this...

Did I mention I have a video camera set up now? Mag mount so could go from car to car if we wanted...
Just sayin'...

so these look like they are in your price range, would make a great woods only set

heck use half the set for your rears, and ill take the other half off your hands if you can't make it fit

Ok, initial plans made. Fuel pump arrived today and will go in tomorrow. Friday I'll scope out some trails. Next week we'll make a small run using the Sammy and my baja, maybe Franz?

Then, after New Years we'll tow up the rail to my house, do a motorswap and then put the puppy into action.

Right now...PARKED.

It would do better with some real tires on it. That has to happen SOOOOOOOOON. Nice thing about the diesel is you can be gentle on the throttle and still go some place. The thing that sucks is there's so much torque right away that you HAVE to be gentle...or you're screwed.

I'm going to take the baja out later today and see how it goes:)
