Well, even lean as can be, it ran in and didn't heat up too much mixtures are out about 3 turns and low speed range is popping off idle.
I had an oil leak either at the lower #4 inside stud, or with the cylinder spacers. I have since pulled cylinders and pistons, cleaned the areas and re-sealed them with Curil T, and have retorqued the heads. Gonna set the valves again and start to play with jets if I have fixed the leak.
Hey Mark, seems we have the same happenings... I fired up and break-in the 2275 last night, looks like 2 new squishie motors into the world. Yep, muffler pressure like mad! Ultra responsive throttle with the squishies (13:1) and EFI. Like Jake sez: "bump it up, hear it thump".
I think yours will run alot better with the carb linkage in place. After a little fiddling around with the fuel map, I got it running pretty smooth. The quiet aircooled.net alum pushrods and scat straight cuts make for a nice (but SERIOUS) "fweem" sound.. I taped the run, so I'll figure out how to edit it down and try to post it, but I'll await for your break-in vid too. Hope you get that oil leak squared away..damn pesky leaks, my leaky direct mount VDO pressure gauge squirted a couple ounces of the slick stuff before I saw the puddle on the floor and did a mild panic.
I dont have a lot of faith in the curil at the cyl to case mating surface. Thats what I used the first time and it leaked on my 2276. ended up using the hi temp copper.
I have found that now during any big bore build I just use copper hi temp with great success,
This is great I am getting ready for a start up of a 2332 that I just put togather but it doesn't have those fancy hi compression piston or one of those pretty fan shrouds.
would love to see some video if you get them posted
Well, since there are not ONE set of Weber IDF idle jets in size 60 in this WHOLE DAMN TOWN, I have to order some. Sucks to be me.
Got the oil leak fixed, I think, I'm thinking I just didn't get the surfaces cleaned and applied very well where the leak was. That was a tougo spot. So I just pulled the heads, pulled that stud, then pulled the cylinders out enough to pull the wristpins. I cleaned it all up well, and then Greened it again, and let it set for a little before I put it back together. It's good for one torqueup, so don't dilly dally, silly sally!
To anyone using Curil T (green) - cleanup is a snap with liquid B-12. You can clean the hell out of the registers too. In fact that stuff rocks for most anything, but I like to clean most hardware and parts with mineral spirits. Odorless is much nicer to work with, and it does a good job.
If it leaks again before I can get it in the car, then I will pull it again and put some ultra something on it. I keep hearing references to Ultra Copper, and wonder if that is a silicone or just a gasket maker of some sort?
Very cool man, really awsome! I taped my break in too, but it was with a non-digital cam How nerve racking is it to fire up and run this peice of art that you have been working on for so long! I almost passed out when we were cranking for oil pressure before the fire up! Not to mention when we did a few dyno pulls on it to seat the rings the 1-2 valve cover gasket sucked up into the head at 6K rpm and it laid oil all over the header, sending out a huge cloud of smoke! I thought it was all over! Damn shiny valve covers!
Isn't it fun to watch the muffler gasket cook and smoke away! I kept wanting to here you rev it up at the end - damn linkage! I am surely jealous of your HP! I built the best 1915 I could get, but just ran out of budget for the stroker! Maybe when the 1915 gets tired...
I just set my timing right today and can't hook my 185 tires in first gear anymore!! Just imagine what YOUR ride will be like!
Congrats on the motor, and your stand worked great! Don't let anyone give you crap about that!
flatfour, this was the second run-in part. The first was about a minute and I had to shut off for a miss (clogged jet, yes, after ALL my cleaning and thoroughness). It sounded pretty rough first time around. Second time it started to sound a lot better, regardless of the clatter of the loose valves. I tightened things up and gave it another run today with no shroud, to see how the leak was. When the heads hit 375+ I shut it off.
Idle jets are definitely lean so I am going to wait to get some bigger ones before I start it again for another long run.
Wow Cool! You were just too damn relaxed though on the tape.I would think after all that you'd be jumping up and down and yelling,"Yeah!!!,Yee Haaa!!!! Heh Heh Heh Yeah Man !!!!,SheeeeeT!!!"
I like to use The Permetex Ultra Grey around my Cylinder Base's.Its Cool!
Good Job! get that linkage and jets and lets hear some romping on it and get the neighbors peaking out the windows!
60 idle jets, wow. I have tuned quite a few weber IDF motors, and I've never needed a 60 idle jet.
I am also running squishies, you will like the combo!
