Making progress...

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I will be made of... I mean the plate will be made of .190" thick aluminum, and will extend from the torsion housing and wrap around to mid point of the rear cage (near the second bend). Already being designed... 8)

I'm liking the new mods!

I'm getting some work done myself...going to post Q's in the electrical forum, if I can't find my answers.

We might get done at the same time! I only have 3 class days left before summer break! (I sound like I'm in my 20's 8) )

Maybe the maiden voyages should be planned for Ocotillo Wells, and just suffer through the heat to test out the cars. My Beard seats won't be ready for 3-4 more weeks. :x I need the seats to buy the harnesses. Need the harnesses to weld in the mount tabs. I am trying to finish eveything else before the seats get here. Details, details...

Sounds like fun. I've never been out in a baja, so it could be pretty interesting. I'm keeping my eye out for a cheap trailer. I figure minimum 6x10. I don't want to leave it on it's first time out....and taking a trailer is good luck, right? :)

I scored on some 1" od tube bends at work today. Not only were they free, but they were bent to the same angle I was wanting! How does get any better than that? They were a perfect match for the tail light guards...

Kewl and looking good there Skid. Perfect fit Hmmmmm makes me wonder. Did you cut them to short for work?
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

Actually they were some left over pieces that one of our customers had left behind several months ago. They came out of much larger pieces, just needed to be cut out. I have the rest of the original part material in my garage now. 8)

I guess that's when you boss asking you to take out the trash is a good thing, right?

Sure, I'll take it out....(to my car)

Did a lot of tinkering this weekend. A bunch of time spent, but it doesn't seem like a whole bunch. The main progress was getting the fuel cell mounts finished. The cover for the cell enclosure was welded up Friday at work, so here goes the pics...

Here are the attach points and the steel straps I made.
Image

I drilled two holes in the bulkhead, and welded the head of the bolt on the inside.
Image

The straps are 1/8" x 1-1/4" steel bar.
Image

I used a vinyl tube to act as a grommet for the cell box.
Image

Before I installed the cover, I usde a spray adhesive and lined the inside with an insulating material to quiet any vibration on the cover.
Image

Here is how it sits now. I still need to get the vent hose, and fab a bulkhead to mount the remote fill. Then the fuel system will be finished. With 22 gallons of fuel onboard, the rear seat is non-existent!
Image

I also ran the power braid over the wiring all the way up to the front firewall, since I had to install it under the cell.

And mounted the horn...

So I guess I got a little done this weekend. 8)

Wow! Lots of progress... I got a bit more wiring done...that's about it. Nothing to brag about or take pics of. :(

Your fab work looks great, Skid!

Speaking of horns...have you seen the "BadBoy" horn? Thought it would be funny to pull up behind someone in a little baja and have a loud-ass horn!

I had the license plate mount punched out at work this afternoon. I just finished welding it in. The only things left to fab in the rear are the motor mounts an the skid plate.

Look at that last picture and tell me what's missing....

I just purchased four new CV's, ineer & outer bearings, seals, etc. for the 3x3's. As soon as I finish packing the new CV's and get the axles installed, then you can bug me about a spin around the block without a real seat... :D
