Is this the same 2.3 motor that they eventually added a turbo to and put in the old Thunderbird turbo coupes? (and Merkur XR4Ti?)

Yep, Pinto, Mustang II, T-Birds XR4Ti, later Stangs, Rangers, Capris... plus probably others ....
NOT Tempo or Topaz however ..
