Well, I wouldn't recommend running the engine unless you know for sure that there's an intact oil strainer installed to catch the pieces. If there is, don't lose sleep over it, they'll all come out with the oil changes eventually.
The accelerator pump is the little square doo-dad near the bottom of the carburetor on the RH side by the fanhousing with the linkage lever going into the middle of it. Its job is to squirt a small stream of fuel into the carburetor each time you step on the gas to cover up for the momentary lean condition that would exist otherwise. Near the top of the carb you should see a little brass nozzle; it should pee a stream each time you move the throttle, generally it's best if it's aimed right next to the side of the carb so it goes past the throttle plate at the bottom just as it starts to open. It's tapered where it's driven into the carburetor; if you move it make sure it isn't left loose (tap it in with a punch/tiny chisel) since it could come out and do some damage to a combustion chamber/piston top...these aren't quite "digestible".

I don't know about being lucky, I could fall into a bucket of nipples and come out sucking my thumb! I guess all of my luck 'quotient' has gone into fuel pump pedistals rather than the important stuff!

is it going to help ne that my motor is new and that the pedustule may come out easier, just because it wont be so brittle?

Yes (provided it wasn't force-fitted when installed). If it's the black plastic kind, not the original brown bakelite, it'll probably slip right out.
