I have to agree, cut and paste. The weight balance alone will make the cutting easier to swallow. What is the point of putting that much power hanging off the back end of your car? If you really intend to take advantage of the power, you'll find yourself pointing the wrong direction much to quickly, as well as going through tranny parts like cheap gum, or spending big bucks to get one built that will handle it. Make some really good plans, then cut carefully. You could always weld the piece right back in if you wanted to. Otherwise get a type IV aircooled, and build it up a bit, a much easier, cheaper, and better fitting option if you'll drop your HP needs a bit.

I agree- a mid-engined thing (or trekker as we brits call them) would be awesome. Also with no roof - would be easy to work at i guess. Im planning to do a mid-engined beetle with either audi or UN1 transaxle- giving serious consideration to building whole new chassis- bound to be stronger than chopping off back-end of beetle chassis and then having to strengthen it up. However many others have gone that route and seem to have no probs

The original intent was to use this engine either in a THING or a MANX SR2, I really have to stick with a rear engine. As it turns out, the length of the engine will fit in the SR2 and the stock engine cover will fit with a intake scoop added that was used on SR's with Corvair power.
