hey thanks guys for the advice and websites. i am mainly doing this project just for shits and giggles, also just to scare the ever living crap out of myself. i figure a v8 with 600+ hp should be a blast to drive in a short wheelbase bug. also since i am going to grad school for mechanical engineering, i figure i may as well learn about odd projects just to make things interesting. thanks abunch chris

bradley what kind of motor is the subaru so i can research it. i am looking to researching a v8 and a 4 cylinder project down the road.

thanks for the idea paul, but the reason this is a long term project is that i am in college and heading into master later. thanks for the help chirs.

you'd do better by using a single turbo.
twin turbos won't produce as much power as a single, and you'll cook the engine.
one thing to think about (if you haven't already) is space in the front for the twin turbos.
you'll need some ultra low compression, and you'll be limited to a small(under 100) shot of nitrous, and will need super high octane gas(race gas if you want to raise the boost)
but...i think the joy of a small shot of juice to help the turbines spool up as v8 low end torque slams you in your seat, should be well worth the efforts.

I saw a front engine v8 bug. They took a mustang II chassis, I believe they shortened it by about 5 inches and put the bug body on that. Nice little 350 tucked in under the hood. Looked nice.

do you even use a vw chassis when you convert to front v8 power? so then its pretty much a regualr car with a v8 with a bug body on it? there is a conception that bugs are a slow pos among the public out there. if your doing this just do do something different, then go ahead. but if you think that a bug with a load of hp will be slower than your typical v8, or unreliable, you have got to be kidding me. how can you call it a volkswagen if all you use from the car is the body?

i'm lovin this. i'm 15 and i have always dreamed of having a crazy beetle with a v8 or something in it. have fun and get some safety harnesses man. first chance you get let's see some pics.

The "only" way to do this right is to build it like any other street rod except for the body. When done well it's kinda neat (I may be an aircooled purist but good engineering is admirable in almost any guise). Best research resource for such a project would be in the Detroit-powered streetrod world - there's so little of the VW left when you're done that almost nobody here has anything worthwhile to contribute, as you may have noticed.
Please use a SuperBeetle body. It'll have a slightly longer wheelbase, more room up front for the engine, and nobody will give a damn that you hacked it up.

It would be pretty cool if you use a Porsche V8 instead of an American V8.
It might be a little pricy though..

The only Porsche V8 available was in the 928 from 1977-1982. Not too many made, I think 17k of them. They were 4.4 liter and produced 240 horsepower... I say you should use an Audi V8....

go to www.kennedyeng.com They can help you if you want to mount the engine to the transaxle. They even have an adaptor for a V10. This would work if you are building a baja and don't mind the engine sticking way out the back. I say if you want good reliable power go Subaru or RX7 power.
