944 Trailing arms in Type I,II,IV or 181

Thanks for the help! I need the extra width because they are going on a Thing and I will be using wider finders. I just purchased a complete 86 Turbo suspension so I also get the Turbo brakes. I'm engineering a fit to weld the Porsche bigger spindles onto a set of Thing spindles to keep the steering and lift. If that works out as I plan, I am looking into doing the same to a Bug.

Did you find any wheels, I assume the Thing was fitted with off-road wheels?

Found my wheels will post pics later, also picked up 356c front spindles and disc's. Straight up bolt on for my linkpin front end. There is a set on E-bay, search under "Porsche 356c front disc brake hubs, spindles etc."

944 rear trailing arms module...axles, rotors and brakes are going on 5x5's

The wheels spun out straight and true, I was able to get 4 matched......

Just so you know, 944 style trailing arm won't fit a Type IV as it has a much different wishbone/coil spring trailing arm configuration.

test fitting the 356 spidles I found the left support bow was bent. I built a press and took it apart, bad news and good news. Bad news it is very bent, good news is the VW beetle spindles I took apart are good and the vw support bow will interchange with the porsche........




look at the difference between the axle....Porsche is much bigger.

The 356 support bow was bent bad, after pressing everything apart I had the 356 spindle fitted to the T-1 support bow. The T-1 support bow looks beefier.
