CB Performance Uni -Tech rods

Post by Bugmekanic »

Did a search on uni-tech rods and came across this thread. All I lack is a set of rods for my 2275 I'm building and was looking at these. Any updates on people using them? Would ARP bolts go in 'em OK, or are the CB bolts of high quality? Heck, I'll buy a good used set of H-beam rods if anyone has them...

i have never seen them (the scats), but heard from clfers that the tangs are incorrect and require rework.

search clf for "scat rod tang" and see if you turn anything up.

Rumor has it that the new batch fixed the Scat rods... Just grapevine stuff so do not quote me on that.

a recently machined set of SCAT VW Journal H-beams were machined with the bearing tang in the Chevy location (someone was asleep).

this causes the bearing to be off-center in the rod (not good).

I just used the scat rods and yes I did have to file the bearing tang, I to am looking at the cb rods for the next build, I didn't like the idea of having to file the bearing but the rods do look good but has not been put to the test yet. Hope to have the motor up and going soon.

So has anyone got any data on the unitech rods verses similar scat/cb performance for quality strength ect?

I don't have any experience with the Scat rods but I have used the Unitechs. I absolutely loved them!
In my opinion, you can't beat them for the price.
I weighed them and out of the box they all weighed the same. Exactly the same.
I won't use any other rod in a performance build unless it's a big stroker. And that's just for clearance issues.

There have been a couple versions of the unitech over the years...

The first ones rocked, or atr least were decent, I have a set...
The second, cheaper design were abruptly pulled from the market for unknown reasons very soon after introduction..
If CB is selling them again, I would do some due diligence first and check around.

The SCAT ibeams rods look bulletproof and are available in different lengths.

This stuff is all made in China, so fully checking things out before installing is not just a good idea.... It's survival.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
