I was right, it IS so easy.

One thing that hebster did that I woudn't (normally) is to redrill for the head studs. The head studs are the same pattern as the Autocraft race heads, and since that's where I want to use the car anyway, why not move up to the autocraft heads, or a similar head with the same head stud pattern? Hell, with a Porsche style fan shroud from aircooled.net even Superflows might be streetable....

Hey now, we are all on the same side. The wbx case sounds like the way to go, and if it is nescesary to redrill to drive on the street to keep from having a lifter bore go out on me like I had happen at 40,000 miles on my 78X90.5, then that is what I will do. Or for a full race motor using Auto Craft heads, that sounds like a plan. Getting all these minds working on escalating the V-dub performance is what we need to keep working on. I know the wbx case is in my future.

That is a very interesting site, and his hebster looks the bollox.
I wasn't aware of how similar they are, although I bet my local machinist would go cross-eyed if i were to do that!!

Also Ive heard that VW have deleted alot of the bearings for the WBX. Laurie Petit over here specialises in rebuilding these engines and has had a lot of trouble getting genuine bearings.

Has anyone got any experience or seen one of the new TF-1 aluminum aftermarket replacement cases: http://www.precisionalloy.com/ ?

Dependent on price I may be putting my new RIMCO prepped supercase on the market infavor of one of these babies for my 2332 EFI Intercooled Turbo motor.

I was told it was $1795
And for my aplication, i would probably just opt for a Pauter case where i could just pull the top off in the car and check rod bearings.

They were at SIR.
Very expensive, and they don't come stock w/ a T4 main setup, he told me Rimco line bores his castings for him (good and straight then).

The TF-1 case is the one I mentioned above. A no special effort 2234cc, assembled like a stock 1600, produced 165 HP on the dyno. Think what you could get with with a well planned effort! BTW not all aftermarket cases have the dropped cam feature. Yes other cases can run 90 mm strokes but how much easier would it be with the extra room? Like I said assemble a 2234 like doing a stocker!

I talked to my friend tonight and his case takes ALL the stock sheetmetal. It was designed as a true stock replacement for high performance, large displacement uses.

I posted on yahoo Suburu - Vanagon Swap list and found a few good engines but one guy wanted $1100.00 for his complete package down to the exhaust and computer. I said Thanks but I'll have to pass. Another guy on the list has found the oxyboxer site and has anounced that their engines are worth something now.
I am getting one complete for $250 which I think is a reasonable price.
