I ordered the 3 custom items (and a few generic small parts) that are needed for mounting.
The first item is the bearing spacers shim. But the 944 hub uses either stock 944 or stock bus bearings and races (I went German 944 bearings). Also you will need new 944 grease seals, but no big deal (they get destroyed when taking the bearings out.
The second item is custom grease caps. These could probably be done at home by welding a Beetle cap on top of a 944 cap, but they are not expensive enough to worry about the headache

The last item is the kicker, the caliper mount. I am not a fabrication person at all so this may or may not be a super PITA... Rex has heard of people building thier own, but I cannot fathom that kind of work w/o a great template of some sort.
The kit also uses front Beetle brake line in place of the bus ones.
Of course at this time you will need a modified stock MC to get rid of the check valve or the baywindow MC conversion. I went with the bay MC and mounting kit from Wolfgang Int, $40... Kind of a rip off for what you get but if it works I will not complain. Again I do not know anyone that could DIY this mount so it costs. I do not feel comfortable with the Eric&Barb conversion (actually trying it on my '67, so we will see what happens there), Ronnie at OldVolks curses a blue streak about this procedure due to the incorrect proportioning.
A buddy has a good digital camera and so I hope to do a full report and have it hosted by someone (actually John at aircooled.net expressed interest in hosting it, otherwise I figure Rex or Rob Henley might be kind enough).
More to come in 2 weeks....
