Still haven't gotten this issue sorted out. I talked to Mario this week about sending it to him. He's pretty swamped right now, so I'm holding off until July.
The call I'm really waiting for is Dave Kawell to tell me my new engine is ready.

Engine is in and running great. Haven't used a distributor in years. ECU is out and at Marios for a little attention.

I got my ECU back from Mario and installed. Will run ignition only until the fall. I had a bad synch loss starting at 1400rpm, tracked it down to my settings.
I remember when I first got into VW’s how clean dual carbs and an electric fuel pump made the engine. Now we ditch the distributor too. The left coils have to be cocked with these carbs, but will be straight with the throttle bodies.

Good eye panel, it's a makeshift ground from the coils.

Got my carbs off and throttle bodies on a couple of weeks ago. Have to move my coils to clear the air filters, have an easy idea for that. Fired up first try and seems to run great. Oxygen sensor wasn't working and I tracked it down to a bad ground/solder joint. Finally time to get tuning!

This thing is really running great. I’ve created a very safe map with VEAL. Want to start working on lean cruise settings. Still have to move my coils and tidy up a bit.

They interfere with the air cleaners, only moving them inboard a couple of inches.

It only took two years, but I finally got around to moving my coils. I measured wrong somewhere, so one is about 1" off from being centered.

I decided to add idle control and found C16 was fried when I pulled the board. I don't know what circuit it is in, but the car has been running fine. I found that this is rare, but not uncommon. They changed to a higher duty capacitor sometime after I bought this board. A new HD one is on the way.

I have a new issue with my wideband. I replaced the O2 sensor and controller (Spartan3lite) and nothing changed. When I crank the car it does the normal 13.3 then 16.6 test cycle while the sensor is heating, but then goes to 19.5 and stays there. It was working fine and started this after a restart. I reloaded a restore point incase something changed in settings. Any ideas here?

Video of startup.
