Beard make a small bench seat that may work for you...

Re: 1969 Baja Fix
I just got this 10 gal tank from summit. Foam filled, rubber flapper in the fill, remote fill, roll over valve, and mounting straps for about 300 bucks. That would leave some extra cash for a custom width bench from prp. I read they can make benches in 1 inch increments, saw that in petersons.

Re: 1969 Baja Fix
Kind of a silly question as I really don't know but... could buckets be made to fit? I'm sure some cut and paste plus moving things would have to be done but just an idea.
I'm into deciding the seat thing myself and I got looking but not trying to see if they could be fit back there.

Buckets- like the fiberglasss ones with covers? I've seen bad experiences with those breaking in a bad crash.. I know they make kids beard seats but they will out grow them and I've heard since they aren't approved as a car seat, I could get ticketed on the highway?

Re: 1969 Baja Fix
I hadn't thought about street legal so I looked it up for the state of WA. If there is something there that does cover it... I missed it but I did see something about Poli-glass seats that give me the impression that they may (or may not) be OK. Not 100% on that though as I was doing a quick search/scan.
I haven't looked into buggies for a while so I am not sure just what is going on with them. I did see, on Spike TV this morning, a segment about seats for off-roading. It was OEM style of seats vs. after market seats. It was very interesting as (over-all) the OEM style of seats are not put together to handle the rigors of ruff off-road use so the frame, attachments and joints can quickly break down or break apart. The seats he was showing as preferred types of suspension seats were cheap... only ~$500 per.
. The frames of the aftermarket (suspension) seats are just designed to be inherently better strength wise while still fairly comfortable.
My buggy came with '69 Camaro seats. GM does/did make comfortable seats (to hide other deficiencies?
) but they were, after a short bit of off-road use getting kind of sloppy. Now, they are mounted on a frame that has wheels in the back and legs in front and are great for sitting around the driveway and just BSing.

Yeah, and more complaints in between rides. I had a 4 seat buggy and it was fun, but in reality once they get beyond a certain age, it's not really all that safe. You're really in large sandrail or 4WD territory if you want to carry more than about 3 people safely.
I know, you need TWO bajas!

So is your wife agitating for her own Baja yet? Since she seems to have so much fun racing the Powder Puff in the AGS 5-1600 Baja, I was thinking that she was soon going to be pushing for her own car. (mas $$$$
) That would provide enough seats all around. My own Baja is a 3-seater.

she's all about it. I'm holding the money, it's hard to justify spending cash on these things with the kids future. Being an adult is way harder than I thought.dustymojave wrote:So is your wife agitating for her own Baja yet? I'm right in the middle of a huge career change as well. That's why I've got no updates. I have some cash put away for this thing, but I might be buying a daily driver for work so that's where the cash would go. I can't believe the night run is 3 months away. a whole year has been smoked by!!

Its going to get harder before it gets easier but it will be worth it in the end.
I posted this the other day but I think it is pretty accurate:
"Soon we must choose between what is right and what is easy" Albus Dumbledor (Harry Potter Goblet of Fire)
I think you might be there right now!

I've just gone through a huge career change too. I retired... Seems like I'm busier than ever.

And... it’s a runner! Heading back for redemption 5 years later, camping out at the blue inn.
