I put in the new TS switch. Only one extra wire that I can't find a mate for. But the turn signals still flash fast and weak. I took off plastic covers and switched the two wires in the left front and rear. That fixed the left side. But not the right. I started unscrewing the right rear cover and the light slowed to a normal beat. I tightened the two Philips-head screws and the beat became fast and weak again. So I loosened them a bit and the flash went back to normal. Dunno why but now all four TS and parking lights are normal. Turning the headlights on has no negative effect on the flashing.

Next up is replacing the right rear drum cylinder.

Thanks,

Apparently you have a problem with an intermittent ground to the bulbholder/refector, and fussing with the lens screw torque is enabling it to make sufficient contact to the taillamp housing. It's only a matter of time before the problem recurs if you don't make a permanent fix. Legit `67 bulbholders (late ones, anyway) have a ground tab on the back, where a brown wire in the pigtail harness connects - the other end goes to a male spadelug tab behind the side tarboard in the engine compartment. If the tab's broken, the wire's loose, or you have earlier bulbholders which lack the tab, the only ground path available is through physical contact between the bulbholder and the housing (and the latter is painted, which doesn't help...the housing's grounded through the two m5 mounting studs/nuts to the fender and ultimately through the fender-to-body bolts, over time resistance can develop at those contact points which is why the dedicated ground wire was introduced). Investigate and correct as required...if there's no ground tab on the bulbholder you can still improvise by drilling a small hole and attaching a wire using a bolt/nut.

Thanks, I'm going to wait for the fast flash to come back. When that happens I'll drill a hole for adding a ground wire. Since I had to work on the right rear side I went on to replace the RR brake drum cylinder. Lot less mushiness in the pedal now. I bought four new cylinders about 10 years ago but never got around to replacing the RR.
