I all of the shops I've worked in, the standard practice is to use a measuring device capable of 10X greater accuracy than the part tolerance, so a micrometer, capable of .0001 would be used for a +/-.001 tolerance.Ol'fogasaurus wrote: A machinist, for example may not use calipers for tight dimensions like .001(3 decimal places) or even tighter, they would probably be more prone to use mikes w/a standard. Those composite calipers are notoriously inaccurate.
