Crazy if you are laying down the cash for the suby trans you might as well do the suby motor which will run forever. And of course you can also supercharge it as well. And it will still last way longer then the type 4.

I've seen your actuated scoop video-I've thought about doing that with the whole deck lid though, and having the front pic up with some sort of bellows to guide the air over the inter-cooler.

I'm sorely split on what to use to power the next ghia I get--either a full suby motor/trans or a supercharged t4 with suby trans. Your not helping, the suby always looks like fun when I see one put in a ghia  .
My friend, you want Subie power. Where else are you going to get 300HP for under $2k?

Cool setup on the air intake. My car has the air intake swinging over to the left as well although I haven't worked out the fresh air source yet. Love your car! Look forward to meeting up in NoVa one day!

fstbckgt wrote:Very nice, I had no idea that those videos on youtube with the retracting scoop were your ghia. I like the new setup.
Are you still running the swing-axle trans or is this an IRS conversion? Also can you post up your wheel and tire specs, thanks a billion for all this info.
Thanks fstbkgt, yeah the motorized scoop was a an attempt at keeping a sleeper vibe but once I started setting up the suspension, wheels and front air scoop I realized that cat would be out of the bag.
I have the reversed 5 spd wrx transmission which required converting my suspension to IRS.
Tires are 215 45 17 on 7 1/2" wide Rays Volk TE37. I'm not sure what the backspacing is but they came of a wrx. I have spacers on the front and I spaced the disc on the rear axle out some as well.

Yeah I can't wait to get these cars side by side! Turbo vs naturally aspirated...your car is looking great by the way!

I just got back from Mach V and my dyno tuning session...what an awesome expierience! The sound in that garage at 7000rpms is unreal. Unfortunatley, I was so excited I hit the record button twice on my camera and missed it all  . They took a video there but it will be a month or two before its on youtube.
But, here's the good news at 20psi. 301hp 281tq at the wheels, right where i wanted to be! No butt dyno yet because I was low on fuel and trying to get home so I nursed it the whole way. To be honest, after hearing it in there, I'm a little scared to get on it..My tired ej205 may have a little knock developing though. I think it will hold together while I'm building my ej22t shortblock.

dangit. I'll have to go suby power after reading this thread. noslzzp--I really like the idea of using a 6cyl suby (I've been following your build threads and blog)--maybe one from an svx, the 3.3l?

dlamyle--once you fill up, let us know how daring you are about putting your foot in it! And what problems you run into (ie traction maybe?). I know you don't have a build thread, but if you could toss something together it would be nice to have more info on putting a suby in a ghia! mostly any major issues you ran into.

You want the EZ30R. The SVX is a heavier and older motor (EG33). After market support is probably better for the EZ30R also. The 30Rs are more powerful and are fairly easy to find.

There are two EZ30s, the D and the R.. The R is the one with AVCS, Subaru's variable cam system. This is the motor that sings.. (think V8-lite low idle rumble with crotch rocket like throttle response). You can tell the R by the black plastic intake.

But don't make your decision anytime soon. I'd like to be the only guy with one in a ghia for a while. :)

Did you roll the fenders to get the 215s fitted?

I originally rolled all 4 fenders to get a set of 225s to fit. I had a pretty wide turning radius with those...I did smell a little rubber on a freeway clover leaf yesterday so I'll have to find where thats comming from.
It's been raining so the video proof will have to wait a couple days.

I just want to say a quick thanks to ttriebler at Subarugears. I was a little worried about my transmission holding power before putting in their reversed ring and pinion. So after I clearanced the case and put it together myself, I was even more concerned. After seeing this trans perform on the dyno, I am thoroughly convinced this conversion has no ill effects on transmission strength.
Thanks Todd, Great product!

Here's a look at my fueling sytem. I had originally grafted the subaru tank pump/sender unit on to a extended range tank but had problems with my mig welds and the filler cap leaking. This set up looks more stock (not that I care) but it also hides a bunch of wire and the fuel lines. Now I can toss tools and a spare tire in there and not worry. I'm going to keep the beat up patina look of the tank. I did the por15 treatment to the inside and had to weld up a hole by the old feed hose barb.

I added a section to the tank for more capacity and a bit of a sump effect...helps keep the fuel guage from jumping around and the capacity doesn't nose dive after half a tank anymore.

Oh and heres my fuel pump Walbro 255lph with 10 micron pre filter and 100 micron post filter. -6an fittings. The lines go straight to the fuel rails with one baffle on the return line. I can only hear the fuel pump when I turn on the ignition and then a few seconds after.
