Im in the process of putting a busa engine in a '67 bug and either need a link to someone who makes/can make adapters or maybe purchase some plans so i can make one myself.kcr wrote:That's awesome. I have a group of guys from the Vegas area that have Busa powered rails with VW gearboxes. They seem to be holding up well.

Re: VW 091 Hayabusa Adapter
The group of guys bought the cars out of the Michigan area I believe. They have done many revisions and many upgrades getting them to where they are at now. I have not done a search but maybe look for Busa powered rails in that area of the U.S.
The gearboxes I rebuilt started out as Rhino cases(built elsewhere...Michigan and Las Vegas come to mind) that have the bell housing portion cut off. They now have Weddle mainshafts and Weddle 3rd and 4ths. Originally they had a stock mainshaft and I think a Weddle 3rd gear, which was the only gear that was used besides reverse.
The guys had to redesign the input shaft seal area as the original builder had nothing to support the cv joint like coupler that hooks to the input shaft and couples the Busa to the VW gearbox. It was tearing up input shafts and blowing gear oil every where. They came up with a retainer, bushing, bearing type thing that solved that problem. They have 4.12 "O" r/p's, chromoly pinion retainers, super diffs, chromoly diff covers. These gearboxes have no synchros so you have to be stopped and put it into 2nd,3rd, or 4th and then use the 6 speeds of the Busa gearbox.
The guys decided they wanted more gears so we added 2nd, then 4th.
I may have pics somewhere but not on this computer.

Im seriously considering just getting rid of the vw transmission all together and just fitting a subaru rear diff in its place to get rid of the bulk of the vw transmission since i dont need two sets of gears. It will start coming together once i actually find a good hayabusa engine that is reasonably priced. Im not paying $4k for an engine when i can buy the whole dang bike for $6k...
