Went to the VW wrecking yard today and picked up a half-dozen relays - best luck finding them in Eurovans.

Installed a couple already in a `90 Corrado and a `90 Golf and they worked perfectly

Can this relay be made to work on the knob style windscreen wiper switch - say the one on a 70 bug?

That'll require some research - the park circuit is significantly different between the column- and the dash-mounted switch models (it was revamped specifically to support interval wipers) so my initial impression is that it's unlikely.
