Phil, who is doing the turbo stuff for you? exhaust mani etc.
The packaging looks awesome! Exactly how I want to do the turbo in the bug project.

Thanks Jeff, thats all me there. I built the manifold and all the exhaust and intercooler tubing myself. I have done about 75% of the welding, leaving some of the more critical welds(looks and strength) to my friend.

how efficient is the intercooler sitting right on top of the hot motor? nissan had that setup on GTiR pulsars and had all sorts of dramas. is there a scoop or some sort of air supply to it?

Tube frame car without bodywork works just fine. Lots of ambiant air moving around the motor. There will be a scoop up top to push air thru and down.

It's not even close to tuned. The previous motor(totally stock non turbo) died before even tuning the idle mixture. So with the lower compression this one has it runs a bit strange. My tuner should be back from his month in Glamis next week sometime, and will get to tuning it then.

just read your thread on glamisdunes forum. dude is there a money thunderstorm raining on this car or what?!
I'm sort of surprised you didn't go an EJ20T rather than mess around with rebuilding the ecotec with the turbo. I guess ecotecs are very cheap?

I bought 3 Ecotecs off of ebay. Cost was 1100.00 shipped. I look for deals on everything. I got my pistons cheaper than normal, got a deal on the rods. the entire engine rebuild including all the parts and other peoples labor has cost me under 5000.00, and that includes the Megasquirt. Couldnt do that with a subaru and have the same power potential.
Once fully powdercoated I will have just over 26K in this car. Comare that to what many sandrails cost nowadays and I built dirt cheap.

fair enough, more power to ya.
what sort of figures are you expecting from the ecotec? do they take to turbocharging well?
BTW, what did you pay for your megasquirt?

I will be limiting the boost to around 7lbs to keep at the 300hp mark. My built motor will be able to handle 600hp or so with a bigger turbo. 400hp with this turbo is easy. Thee are turbo'd ecotec in drag cars making well over 1000hp(up to 1400 actually on alky).
the megasquirt was 1300.00. This included building the ecu, wiring the entire FI system and tuning. The Haltech I was gonna use was 1200.00 and I had to wire it up and have it tuned(would have been another 1000-1200 to have done).
You cant build much cheaper than what I did for the power.
