Mr. Suave, lookin' mighty nice! Funny how a good build is so much improved by the right fenders sitting at the right height. Cruz in fun dood; sit low in the seat, elbow out the window and lookin' gud.

Well I finally got the car (mostly) back together after welding in a new bung for the inner pivot.
Only took me 2 1/2 months...

The helicoil didn't hold?

Actually it was my safety wire that didn't hold

The safety wire broke or came undone (not sure which), and the bolt back out enough to ruin the threads again...
Turned out not to be too hard to just cut it out with a torch and welding in a frankenstein piece off of a new pivot.

That sucks! It also sucks that the Helicoil argument will never be settled now.

Yea, sorry I couldn't settle that argument properly.
The threads were still somewhat intact after the last incident. But the hole had become oblong, so there was no way I could snug the bolt down well.

Are you going to safety wire again, or try something else?

Not entirely sure just yet. The hole in the new pivot bolt will probably accommodate a 1/4" bolt and I could bolt it through the gusset right above. I also picked up some safety wire that says it is good for up to 25 lbs. I am not sure if that is a good number or not though...

I might be a little biased, but I like Skid's fix.

Rick, in your defense, I don't get in the garage much when it's hot either....August/September are the worst.
