Those two bumper support pipes are ugly as hell. I'm holding off because I don't know what I plan to do with the bumpers, but they may end up going.

Like I said, their purpose was to back up the facebar so it would show no damage on the 5 MPH impact test. Unfortunately at around 10 MPH it would bend the beam, and in a medium-speed impact that on an older car might total the body but leave the pan OK, there's a higher chance of the frame head getting damaged. But they DO lessen the sheetmetal damage on a low-speed impact, and it's cheaper/easier to change the beam than the nose.

For a short term solution, like you are proposing, it probably does not matter too much.Bonemaro wrote:Do you have a favorite?helowrench wrote:C or some sort of conversion coation.
you could probably even get away with plain old naval jelly and a shot of primer from a spray can.

Unfortunately in todays traffic, your bumper is below theirs 90% of the time.Marc wrote:Like I said, their purpose was to back up the facebar so it would show no damage on the 5 MPH impact test. I hit the back of a saturn coupe, and my bumper never touched his. Since we both were under hard braking, his bumper hit the nose and headlight on my car.
My preference would be to use the fiberglass bumper with no overriders, an dmatch them to body color.
the lines are the same as the earlier bumpers, but one peice and nice and clean.

That's what I was thinking. I'll use the POR-15 stuff on the floor pans and such.helowrench wrote:For a short term solution, like you are proposing, it probably does not matter too much.Bonemaro wrote:Do you have a favorite?helowrench wrote:C or some sort of conversion coation.

Let's talk about my rust removal.
What do you like best? Flapper wheel? Wire wheel? Phaser set to stun?

3m finger tyype surface conditioning disc.
Will take off crap, and not touch base metal.

No pn on the item itself.
But emblazoned with "3m Roloc Bristle Disc" so you should be able to find it.

I see those. They look nice. What do that attach to, a standard grinder?

I saw some guy on YouTube using them with a grinder, but 3M told me they don't have a backing plate like that.

You attach them to the 1/4 turn 3m Roloc stem.
Can be found at Autozone.
Or just buy the stem with uour bristle discs.
You will eventually want some of the Scotchbrite pads also.
Warning. The more you use them the more uses you find.
Kinda like crack that way.
