Points will get an oxide coating on them just sitting around--- Sometimes are like that whan you take them out of the box.
Try cleaning then gently, a folded strip of notebook paper dragged between closed points can do wonders.
(Make sure they actually open too)

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Nice pic David.david58 wrote:
Regarding your "shortcut"...you may want to addendum that....to insure that the pertronix...if you have one, is disconnected.
Otherwise when you hook up your test light, you could short the 2 sides frying aforementioned part.

I have the test board at home but will install the electronic ignition out of my Baja and see if it kills it.
I think it fries it when hooked up backwards on the coil terminals.
I have the Accufire electronic ignition kit not the petronix.

It does this, but....david58 wrote:Turn the key on clamp the end of the test lamp to terminal # 15 touch the probe end of the test light to the dist. housing does the light come on? If so you have power to the coil.
It does not do the pulsing thing taht it says in the picture?
im thinking defective coil.

When you're testing 15, you're just testing power to the coil, as David said. It shouldn't pulse on that side. If you have power to the coil...and you're sure the wiring is correct....Joxracing wrote:It does this, but....david58 wrote:Turn the key on clamp the end of the test lamp to terminal # 15 touch the probe end of the test light to the dist. housing does the light come on? I take the coil wire of the dist cap....hold it near a ground and turn the engine over....should get a nice bright strong spark. If you feel questionable about holding the wire, you can hold it with a rag or gloves.
If you don't get a spark, it's either the coil or the coil wire...or the wiring.

If the test light does not blink then the points and condenser are NOT triggering the coil. You can throw all the coils you want to on it and it still will Not have spark. Have you checked the gap of the points?Joxracing wrote:It does this, but....david58 wrote:Turn the key on clamp the end of the test lamp to terminal # 15 touch the probe end of the test light to the dist. housing does the light come on? Here is a short video notice the blinking LED on the top of the coil. It is connected between terminals # 15 & #1 you can see the spark plugs sparking in the video.

Ok in this video you can see the spark out of the coil wire when I touch the test light to terminal #1 and have the other end hooked to terminal # 15 the spark goes away because of the resistance of the test lamp. This is actually with the accufire but points work the same way. It is hard to hold the camera with one hand and video yourself doing three things so don't laugh.
