buyer seller feedback forum

Post by fusername »

I was wondering about adding a buyer seller feedback forum? I recently bout several hundered in parts from a stranger, and that is a lot easier to do if you know something about the guy. Figure it makes the whole deal abit safer feeling, and gives you a way to protect strangers from jerks and promote the good dealers on this site.

Although I also like the idea of a buyer/seller feedback forum, I have a couple of concerns.

First is that it turn into a pissing contest between 2 parties here on the forums or a one sided rant from someone who may (or may not) have gotten the short end of the stick. I agree that most info is useful, but forums have a nasty tendency to get "criticism crazy". Further, ALL suppliers have hiccups. These single events tend to get posted as opposed to the other 1000 smooth transactions. For the newbies, it's hard to tell the difference between a hiccup and someone you just don't do business with.

Second is the value of the info. If the posts are about Joe Blow in OshKosh who is selling a single item and may never sell again, of what value is that kind of individual transaction to the members?

Third, gotta have a moderator to keep it going and going in a direction that's productive and valuable to the members.

Comments and thoughts welcome.

I agree with most of Doc's comments. Some topics invite a lot of trashing. If someone states that they think that they got screwed by Joe Blow, does Joe get to submit a counter-comment? How long do you let things go on? I think that this thread http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic ... 8&t=133909 sufficiently ran it's course a while ago.

If you had a topic with specific threads for different vendors, that are limited, moderated as necessary, to simple "I got stuff from Joe Blow and had excellent, decent, so-so, crappy service from them. Even a mild banter, back and forth, within reason would be acceptable.

well the format i have seen that works real well over on thesamba is a dedicated thread to each buyer/seller, mainly sellers. so say turboblue would have a thread, and folks who buy from him can, and if he's smart, encourged to post about how they felt the transtion whent, so if someone is thinking about spending some coin with him (reccomended btw) they need only find his one thread and see all the info there is to be had.

maybe the forum could be limited to only feedback where both parties are forum members, so both sides can be heard, and often if there is a stink someone may speak up for em if its a regular and the such.

I agree with Doc. I am sure most know how Ebay does it......When a buyer sells, and when the seller buys, each leaves a feed back as to how the transaction went. However that requires a sofisticated software. I don't see it happening on STF. :!:

I might add, I received the fleas from a thousand camels for posting in the wrong forum. Watch for the UPS man with a package the size of a match box.

I think this would be a great idea as well. Maybe a simple link / button could be added to the base of classified add, so it would be easy to just click to read their feedback. STF is great and there are a lot of honest and good users on here. But you never know these days...
