So I know I wasn't going to put any time into this thing over the holidays, but I got a few hours in on the sly while the girl was at the after xmas sales
Nothing real flash Just started bolting a few things together, welded a few brackets and tabs ( the little boxes are right up near the front so that the HID ballasts are protected) and cleaned and threw some paint on those rear fender frames. Think you can get a rough idea of the shape now. Also got a pair of #450 springs in the mail today (going to get rid of the torsion bars at the rear, its annoying trying to tune in the suspension with both)

Lookin good, you need to hurry up and skin those rear guards so we can see what they're going to look like. The more yellow you get on it the better its looking.

Thanks agains fellows. Is killing me not to be working on this thing over the holidays, have this giant pile of shiny parts sitting in the kitchen just looking at me every day.
Matt - I just wish that the paint job was up to your standard, is really just a quick scuff back to the OG paint and blast it over, the body work is. . . . .. well . . . .lets just say it has no sharp edges You've seen my shiny car, I don't need a second to stess over in a carpark.

Jox - they are home made, check a page or two back. they are made of 16mmOD ( 5/8"? ) steel tube

Graeme - I have the alloy for those gaurds in the shed, Is only a matter of time. Dont think I am going to paint them yellow,leave them raw, maybe some checkers around the perimeter and some clear coat. Trying to get a bit of a race car look to the finished product.
Speaking of the whole thing got painted yellow to begin with so I could write off alot of the materials for tax purposes, being a "promotional vehicle" is going to be sign written, much like this

Great progress on the Baja Nilza. I haven't tossed in my input for a while, so here goes a few.

I spent Christmas day with my Brother in law from W.A. (he has a business here distributing products from Oz - like 4n20 pies).

Be sure to take some photos of the Baja Bug at job sites to put in the tax records just in case the tax man wants proof of the Baja being used for the business. Something I've learned from racing advertising and tax management.

For the rear fender skins, 1mm should be plenty thick enough with those steel frames. You might want to trim with a little extra material hanging out past the tubing to hammer form to the tubing to provide a rolled edge. Tough to do with 6061 or 7075 sheet, but with 5052 or 3003 material it should work great.

I like the way you closed off the sides of the cowl.

Don't forget to put bolts in the original fender mount holes to keep out the undesirable liquids.
