In a word? Colin. You had to have been around back when TS still had the rants, and right before Colin left to understand the true meaning of the word. I'm sure there are some on TS who consider anyone who frequents the Bay forum a stinkfoot, but that's not quite accurate. You might try asking the same question HERE, I'm sure they can do a better job than I can.

Not that it has anything to do with you per se, since you don't own a Bus that I'm aware of. Just that I thought it'd be funny to throw it out there so I could read your reaction.

It's not the design I don't like, just the material it's made of. Leave the iron covers for V-8's, where a pump leak cannot be seen because it's in the pan. If there were an aluminum pump cover for Corvairs I'd change my iron one as well, as it's on the outside of the engine where it can be seen weeping occasionally.

I think the pump body being made out of aluminum is more important than the cover.

I have a scat cover carved out of aluminum, but I've heard that the steel gears can wear on an aluminum face pretty easily, and then you start losing pressure. Even if it doesn't leak to the outside world.

I'm keeping an eye on mine. If I notice a pressure drop and the pump cover is the culprit, I'm switching. Before you jump down my throat, yes, I blueprinted and surfaced everything to do with the pump.

By the way, cool build. Good job opening up those end castings- they certainly have a lot of room for improvement when it comes to porting.

Got a bit more done today..... Got my axles hung, got the brake hubs torqued down, mounts installed, long clutch arm installed, new axle boots, and started mocking up the intake. I'm really diggin the stealthness (is that a word?) of the black. Not too much bling, just business.

As soon as I get my exh. flange, I can continue the exhaust fab stuff.
