search feature
simply becasue of all the excitement of upgrades and stuff, I thought I would make a small request. over on TOS they have a feature where at the top of the page in a fora you can search within only that forum. real helpfull and quick. not sure how big a deal it would be to add that feature with the upcoming revamp, but I figured I would throw it out there.
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.
Things are rarely just crazy enough to work, but they're frequently just crazy enough to fail hilariously.

Click search there is a drop down box that lets you pick the forum you want to search if you don't pick one it searches all the forums.fusername wrote:simply becasue of all the excitement of upgrades and stuff, I thought I would make a small request. over on TOS they have a feature where at the top of the page in a fora you can search within only that forum. real helpfull and quick. not sure how big a deal it would be to add that feature with the upcoming revamp, but I figured I would throw it out there.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

I looked at the samba's search engine the layout is basically the same as the one we have. But thanks for posting by looking at their search engine I discovered a link to a tutorial in it.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=271515
There are some things in there that could be useful here as well when searching. We need a link to a tutorial.

Re: search feature
Guys, you need to modify your search function so it works properly (like it used to). I can no longer enter a number to search like 2276cc or (Engle) 120, etc.

Re: search feature
Interesting observation about numbers not searching. I'll look into it.
Don't know if we can get the search box to every page or not.
Appreciate the suggestions.

Sometimes it's easier to use Googles search engine... I'll type what I'm after and add "shoptalkforums"

Re: search feature
Isn't there a specific syntax for using the independent search engines to search a specific site? I think it has been mentioned before.

Re: search feature
I believe you use the quotes "shoptalkforums"
- Sounds like something they taught me in HS that hasn't had much practical use 'til now

Re: search feature
If this could be made into a button and open in a new window it would be a great addition to have.SiQDiZ wrote:Hi guys,

+word
Placing a plus sign in front of a word will require that all records returned by the search contain that word.
-word
Placing a minus sign in front of a word will ensure that no records returned by the search contain the word.
“phrase search”
Placing quotes around a string of words will direct the search to return records containing the string of words in the specified order.
+“phrase search”

-“phrase search”

substring*
Placing an asterisk next to a word or string will return records that contain the word or string as part of a larger string, dependant on which side of the word or string the asterisk is placed. For example, searching for “bar*” would return “barber”, “*bar” would return “foobar”, and “*bar*” would return “foobarber”. Note that the asterisk does not require that the search string be preceded or followed by any other string: searching for “bar*”, “*bar” or “*bar*” would also return “bar”.
