Cool fix for a rusty reflector on peanut type turn indicator

Post by duginabug »

:WARNING: This procedure is not for the purest-at-heart VW fanatic.

However, it is kind of a neat, easy, and very inexpensive way to fix that rusty old reflector on your “peanut” type turn indicator.

Considering that OG ones are getting harder and harder to find in good shape, especially the screw terminal type, this may be a low cost, maybe even free, alternative.

All you need is an everyday stainless steel table spoon, which conveniently has the same curvatures as the reflector.

It may not be perfect, but you know it will never rust again, and if you really wanted to get spiffy you could use solid rivets instead of pop rivets.

This fix is not limited to the peanut style indicators. A guy could probably find something say...like...a lid from a saucepan for the larger reflectors.

Or maybe a nice serving spoon.

I'm not one for goofy catch phrases, but when it comes to stuff like this try "thinking beyond the obvious". You'll be surprised what you can come up with.

I actually stumbled across this idea while looking for something else.

The Goodwill (or any second hand store) is a great place to find many dandy little sacrificial stainless steel items real cheap.

Hope this is useful to someone.

That is a great idea. Thanks for the cool tips.
Collecting parts again... No I'm not going to say why!

I have, in the past, cruised the goodwill store for the small stainless mixing bowls, as they make great reflectors, and you can find them in an amazing variety of sizes.
