Converting 40 IDF's to throttle bodies Q

Post by bugsterkafer »

Hi,

I have some 40 Webers and instead of bnuying new TB (still a student haha), I thought about removing the vents etc and using them as TB.
I searched through this forum but could not find an answer on that one...

Other parts would be a Megasquirt box, modifying CB's intakes to fit the injectors, probably CB's Throttle Position Sensors (do I only need one?)

....on a 78,5x90,5 engine, GB310 cam .380" at cam and 304 duration with 1,4 rockers, 40/35 P&P'd heaqds with 9,5:1 CR, 1 5/8" merged exhaust in my 67' bug...

BTW I thought about buying new 48IDF's with 38 vents, would my "IDF's conversion" be quite identical performance speaking compared to the 48's?

Thanks for your help

cheers

Aircooled.net sells a TPS that will bolt onto an IDF carburetor. No modification needed. Then use the CB manifolds and fuel rails to hold the injectors and you're set.

hello leo,
hows things?
i have used a single throttle body from a ford from the scrap yard. it cost me next to nothing then i welded some exhaust tubing up to make the plenum... might be easier than modifying your carbs, and you could sell your carbs and get some CB manifolds with the injector bungs and fuel rails to match.

Do you know where it is listed on the site? Because I looked, and I could not find it...

Some news with that project...

I used the IDF's on my 2 liter and it works wonder!

No air leaks, etc. I had to clog them in some places but now it looks just like a twin carb setup, and works like a megasquirted' engine, so if some of you ever thought about it, money wise or not, it's worth it and it works very well!

I modified the intakes, and that's it!

cheers

so what did you have to do to make the 40s into TBs?

i thought all you had to do was block any ports below the butterflies?

thanks.

I'm interested as well, as I'm going to use a single 44 IDF...

Did you use the TPS adapter kit or made your own bracket? What exactly do you have to plug?

Did you make the injector bosses yourself?

Do you (or anyone else) know the sizes to drill them?

I'm orientating on converting type 3 dual port manifolds to FI.

I was going to use Steve Tims welded and ported CB end castings and a single Weber center section...

What mods are made to the carbs? I am really interested in this but for type 4 manifolds in an upright converted type 4.

Please share some information if possible.

I just modify my Webers 40 for TB's buy closing off the main jet (full the hole in the jet with JB weld) also block the choke passages on the bottom of the carb, if your carb is equipped with chokes., Added a Ford TPS. Thats all you have to do
