MIG welder shielding gas, which one?

Post by ress »

Should I buy straight CO2 or the 75% argon/25% CO2 mix for my mig welder. I am going to be welding vw sheet metal with 0.023 wire and wanted to know which is better for the application. Thanks!

Also if you are in the Seattle metro area, where are you guys filling up your tanks?

I use the carbon/argon mix. The spatter is much less. With the .023 wire I have found it to work very well.

Seattle huh? I was just out there again last week. Looking for a house or land to buy and build one. Seems like the VW scene is appropriate for me out there!

Yeah, it's in the air. Still looking but this economy will have to get a bit better. I will have to weld my way out of it possibly!

Noticing things are changing around here...

We use pacific welding

I'm just a novice welder but I have heard good thing from our Army welders about Pacific Welding, that is where they get most of their supplies when welding at home.

Things really that bad out in Minnesota? I heard on the radio the other day that Texas is supposed to be recovering the earliest in fact they expect things to be back to normal in 2010.

I have had some friends laid off out here in Washington.

North Dakota is the place for a good turn around.. they're mining Tar Sands.. they did not boom (or crash)

Upside is you don't get drop in traffic from all your dork pals on thier way to Manitoba (maybe me)
