I said don't laugh. Well it is hard to not laugh I am sure trying to balance a camera in one hand hold it steady and tell what your doing while you do it just aint that easy.
I made a few mods to the test board.
Here is a video of demonstrating the effects of test lights and LED lights on the secondary spark when hooked between the primary terminals of the coil. In parts of the video you can't see the spark but you can hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCEOLmr5ZSc
I know you're having trouble getting spark, but making the dog pull the car?...Dude!

The Flame throwers require a separate ballast resistor.
The only times I have ever seen a bad one, that little minor detail was overlooked.
But...
You can pick up a nice Jacobs coil on Evilbay for a reasonable price, and it will work... forever.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

i bought a flame thrower, with intentions of slapping it on, but i guess not?
any help?
You can get them at any auto parts store.
You want a TOTAL resistance of ~ 3.6-4 ohms, from the coil AND the ballast combined.
The blue just has it built in, but that heats up the coil.
